Influenza B and Pneumonia

Post by jlbattin »

Well, after being sick and in bed for about 6 days, I finally felt like getting up, putting clothes on, and letting my husband take me to the doctor. I was diagnosed with Influenza B which of course, had gone into pneumonia. The doctor told me my lungs were toast and she really wanted to admit me to the hospital (which I adamantly refused) telling her that if got worse, my husband would take me to the ER. She was also very upset with me that I hadn't come in sooner to get Tamaflu (which I also told her I wasn't sure I would take as I didn't know what it would do to my body). She told me the Tamaflu would have kept me from getting pneumonia. Anyway, she sent me home with a Z Pak, inhaler, and some cough medicine. The Z Pak did the trick and now, 2 weeks later, I'm feeling pretty good. I have zero energy and everything I do takes a lot out of me. Probably will be awhile before I'm back to 100 percent again.

Long story short, I was down for almost 2 weeks and still am struggling. I haven't taken the flu shot since I was diagnosed, but I may rethink that next year. I haven't been this sick in a long time. In talking with others who did go to the doctor sooner than I did, they still got pneumonia so I think it was just going with this strain of the flu. I did take my 50,000 vitamin D3 when I started feeling bad. I also upped my vitamin C and Zinc.

It's a rough haul. I hope that all of you stay well. Once I bounce back from this though, I should be as good as new. They say it's good to be sick occasionally that it helps build your immune system!

Hi Jari,

I'm sorry to hear that you had the flu to begin with, and especially sorry that it caused pneumonia. But I'm glad to hear that your doctor prescribed Z-Pak, and it did the trick, because that seems to be one of the few antibiotics that most of us can tolerate well. I hope you get your energy and endurance back soon.

Spring is already here in Central Texas. Daytime temperatures are getting up in the 70's and 80's, and everything is greening up. I believe we've seen our last freeze.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks Marcia, Tex, and Janie.

Tex, I'm ready for spring here. We've had a taste of it for the last couple of weeks, but snow again Fri. and early next week. We've had so many snow days this year that our district had to apply for a waiver because there was just no way we could make them all up! We can have freezes into late May. It's usually not safe until after Mother's Day!

I usually do ok with a Z Pak, which is a good thing because the rest of them make me break out anyway. I figure it will take another 2-3 weeks before I get my energy completely back! I'm just happy to be upright and back to my daily grind again!
