HELP PLEASE, FLARE UP - LEG CRAMPS, FOOD

Post by jcml12 »

I can sure use all your help again. I had been in remission for 5 yrs and MC has come back with a vengeance. I have been extremely careful during those five years but I have noticed over that time that when I did eat certain GF bread (which was not often) they are all made with different ingredients and some would bother me a bit and I would stay away from doing again. I don't know if its the stress of owning a business, Covid or what but its back. It's been 16 days of full blown watery D. I have been taking the max of Pepto and no change. I called my doctor on Monday and they told me they can put me back on the Budesinoid but before they do that she needed me to to a stool test to make sure it isn't something like C-Diff etc and I needed to get a Covid test as D is a symptom and they need to make sure I don't have it. Ugh! Anyway, if your supposed to stay away from sugar (and I am extra sensitive to sugar anyway) how are you supposed to drink things to keep up your electrolytes when everything has sugar and I know I don't want the fake sugar as I am uber sensitive to all of those except Stevia clear. I also have just been eating a little plain protein. No veggies etc. Not sure how I am getting any nutrients? I do take supplements but we all know where they are going. I have been getting non stop leg cramps at night. Have tried magnesium lotion and it does nothing. Please help and thank you!

Hi,

Stress is probably the main problem, but often there are multiple problems that cause a relapse. Don't starve yourself — you have to have at least a minimum amount of food to keep your strength up.

Here are some suggestions for electrolyte drinks without sugar:

Dehydration and Electrolyte Imbalance

If you're having leg cramps, I doubt that magnesium lotion is going to be adequate. You will probably need to either use foot soaks in Epsom salts, add Epsom salts to bathwater and soak for 15 or 20 minutes, or use a good oral magnesium supplement (or a combination). It may be possible to get relief using magnesium lotion, but you would likely have to use a heck of a lot of it, and often, each day.

If budesonide worked the first time, then that's probably your best bet for reasonably prompt relief. You'll need to start with a full dose again, in order tor it to be effective (in most cases).

The leg cramps might be coming from a potassium deficiency. Diarrhea depletes potassium, and a deficiency is common after extended periods of diarrhea.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thank you for getting back to me. Like I said I have been so careful for five years because to me it was never worth eating something that could make me sick again and here we are again. I got the Covid test and it was negative (didn't doubt) but am waiting for the stool test and then the doctor said she would prescribe the Budesonide. I don't like to be on anything but also cannot live like this. Thank you for the info on electrolyte drinks. My sister told me about Liquid IV (you can buy it online or Costco and it is approved by doctors, GF, Non GMO and you just add the powder to water. It is pretty good but really the most important thing is it does the trick. Once I started with that I could think clearly again and felt a bit of life coming back. Thank you again as I knew my MC family would help me.
