Remission!
After an awful year of C-DIFF and LC flares my doctor put me on a 3 month SLOW Budesonide taper. She cautioned me it may not work or may only work short term...I have been off this medication for months and I have literally been eating almost everything!!!! Salads, raw veggies, fruits, yogurt, beans...I feel amazing and have normal bowel movements. I’m so glad I gave this a try. I still have minor symptoms but they are negligible. Again, it doesn’t work for everyone but for now I’m doing better than ever. I have returned to a more normal weight and can leave the house whenever I want. Hoping this will last for a little while. I think if I can maintain balance in my gut and stay low stress I should be good to go. Just wanted to share my experience. (FYI, I had tried everything before this medication...low fod map, gluten free, dairy free, low fiber...etc. It had minimal effects.) Wishing you all the best on your own personalized journeys!

Hi Heather,
I too went on a 2 year remission with the help of a Budesonide "very" slow taper. (very slow taper is the only way to taper this drug in my opinion). However, this past winter...probably because of high stress because of a Melanoma Cancer diagnosis and a bit of let up in how strict I was with my diet, my Colitis came back with a vengeance. I am now bringing it back under control with another Budesonide very slow taper.
I'm very happy that you are doing well, but please be very careful. Stay the course but I would highly advise that you stay gluten free, dairy free, soy free, whatever your original food triggers are because if you eat them, even though you may be able to tolerate them for a while because the Budesonide reduced your GI inflammation, those foods can trigger a relapse of your remission over time. Relapses are extremely common with this insidious disease.
All the best! #colitisalwaysanadventure
