Are people with MC at any higher risk for Covid?
Even as I type this, I realize that there's just so much we still don't know about Covid, who could really say? But I thought I'd ask anyway, since I gather some consider MC to possibly be an autoimmune problem. I am pretty new to the LC diagnosis and am struggling to see any improvement from my radical dietary changes. The reason I ask this question is that I don't know whether to consider myself at more risk of getting sick than an average healthy person. We are weighing whether to send our youngest son back to school in person or not. We're confident this small private school has got a great plan and will do all the risk-management measures possible. That said, it's likely someone will get sick at school at some point, and if my son is the unlucky one and brings it home to the rest of the family, am I considered unusually "fragile"? I surely do not want one more reason to have D! Thanks.
The last issue of the Microscopic Colitis Foundation Newsletter addressed this very topic. Here is a link to that newsletter for those who don't subscribe. We are all wondering how our individual health situation might impact our response to Covid-19 infection!

My personal opinion on this issue (and this is strictly my personal, non-professional opinion) is that the reopening of schools will probably prove to be a disaster in many parts of the country. As best I can determine, based on the sketchy research data available, while kids may not be as vulnerable to complications (or even symptoms) from COVID-19, they are excellent vectors, meaning that they are a high risk for spreading the virus at home and in the community in general.
That said, if schools don't reopen, the economy will take an additional (probably severe) hit, because the home-school requirements will prevent so many parents from returning to the workplace. I agree with the WHO that we're almost surely going to be dealing with coronavirus issues for several decades, unfortunately.
But that's just my opinion.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
