Enterolab question

Post by Jeannie54 »

Hello everyone. After 7 months on 9 mg of Budesonide per day and cholestyramine, I finally dont have D every day! But when I try to taper the Budesonide, the D comes back after about 7 days. I regret not doing Enterolab testing (went to a holistic doctor instead but could not tolerate the supplements). Tex said that after about 6 months of taking B, the testing would show false negatives. My question is, how long do I have to be off of B before getting true test results? Obviously I am eating something that I am sensitive to. Also, I cannnot find turkey that doesn't contain rosemary extract! Can anyone tell me a safe brand to buy?
Any help you can give will be so appreciated!
Thank you,
Jeannie

Hi Jeannie,
I was on Budesonide for 4 1/2 months, then had my Enterolab tests done. Before I did that I called Enterolab and talked to a nurse there about this same concern. I hope they still offer that service but IDK. I want to say I had to be off Budesonide for 8 weeks, but honestly that was 9 years ago and I may not be correct. So check their website for who to call with questions. This is probably a common question for them.

As far as ground turkey brands, I am soy intolerant but do fine with ground turkey that has rosemary extract in it. I just buy Honeysuckle White brand. You may be able to get your grocer/ butcher to grind turkey for you so that it has no additives. I don’t know if you used the search feature on this board but I’m sure we’ve had this come up before. Sorry I don’t have a brand name of preservative free turkey for you.

Best wishes,
Carol

Hi Carol. Thank you so much for your reply. I will give Enterolab a call. And I will always do what Tex suggests from now on! As always, I am so thankful for this group.

I am convinced this board saved my life. Certainly the best, most knowledgable advice I’ve received has been right here.

Best of luck to you,
Carol

Enterolab follow up

Post by Jeannie54 »

I called Enterolab and spoke with Dr. Fine. He said that I would be ok to do the testing now, even though I have been on 9 mg of Budesonide for 7 months. He said that it is not a strong enough steroid to completely shut down my immune system. Has anyone had experience with testing after being on medication for this long? Testing is not cheap, and I don't want to waste my time & money.

Thank you so much for your input. I read posts on this website almost every day and you all give me so much hope!

Based on our accumulated experiences, most people do fine with the tests up until about 9 or 10 months, and then the tests may begin to lose some sensitivity. After a year or more on budesonide, the tests will tend to miss a few sensitivities (false negatives). That said, we're all different, so I'm sure there are exceptions both ways. If I were in your shoes, and I needed test results, I wouldn't hesitate to order the tests.
