Which book to read?

Post by Kestrel »

Hello. Brand new to this forum & so grateful to have found a good, caring, honest source of info for something I'm only beginning to learn about.

First of many questions (& I apologize if this has been covered; I'm still learning to navigate the site):

I'd like to start with just one of Mr Persky's books about MC & am confused re whether to purchase MC (2012), Understanding MC (2018) or the condensed version (2020). Suggestions, given that I'm just starting this journey & want to learn all I can so that I can begin to heal?

Thank you. Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to the group. Here's how the books compare (in my opinion):

The first book Microscopic Colitis was revised and parts of it updated in 2018. It contains a detailed description of the disease, diagnostic criteria, and all known treatments (both medical and dietary). It also contains descriptions of many of the issues that MC patients have to deal with, and additional insight based on the actual experiences of many MC patients. It's available in either 6" x 9" format or 5.5" x 8.5" format. It contains 16 chapters, and the 5.5" x 8.5" format contains 381 pages. The condensed version of the book contains the same basic information in the chapters included, but only six of the most important chapters from the original book are included, with 174 pages.

The book named Understanding Microscopic Colitis contains only a relatively small amount of the information in the first book. It's written with the understanding that the reader already has an understanding of the information in the first book. It contains additional insight and discussions of newer research, and it's primarily targeted at patients who were not able to reach remission after reading the first book. It contains 385 pages with 9 chapters.

The first two books contain all the basics, the third (Understanding Microscopic Colitis) does not.

I hope this helps.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel to ask anything.

Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thank you Tex. I think you're about to become my new hero ... as are all the good people who post on this Forum to help each other thru this challenging condition. I'm just beginning to figure out where to start to heal; have ordered your book, have begun serious research & will begin radically changing my diet.

I'll be back with more questions. Thank you (all).
