Dextrose in Frozen Hash Browns

Post by kariswalstad »

Hello! I'm traveling and cannot find my safe frozen hash browns by Mr. Dell's. Everything has dextrose! Given that it is a small amount, might it be ok for short-term use? I am sensitive to corn... Speaking of corn, my doc wants me to use XLear which contains xylitol, which is derived from corn as well, right? Opinions on using xylitol? Thanks, all!

Hi Karis,

Here's my two cents worth:

The small amount of dextrose in the hash browns probably won't be a problem, but that may depend on how sensitive you are to corn, and/or how much and how often you eat them.

As for the Xylitol, while I'll agree that cane sugar is not the healthiest ingredient in the world, at least it's truly natural. I always choose sugar over all the artificial sweeteners. That said, I don't overdo sugar. True, a few fruits and vegetables contain small amounts of xyletol, but calling the product "natural" is sort of a reach. There are several items that tend to cause leaky gut, especially when used in excess, including gluten, sugar, and alcohol. Xyelitol is a sugar alcohol. I can't speak for others, but the sugar alcohols were strictly off limits while I was recovering. They were so troublesome that I still continue to avoid them, whether I need to or not. As to whether or not they might pose a risk of a relapse for MC patients, I have no idea, because I steer clear of them.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
