Covid vaccine

Though I probably won't get it, due to previous anaphylactic issues, I'm wondering if anyone has gotten this and how it has affected your MC. My husband is considering it. I don't usually do any vaccines. My first and last flu shot was the swine flu shot.

I’m not sure if I count anymore since I’m controlled with cholestyramine ..but I had a sore arm and felt low level crappy for one day but not crappy enough to skip work. I get my second shot this Wednesday .

I'm 79 now, and COVID-19 is so serious for old codgers like me that I actually considered getting a vaccination (even though I've never had a flu shot), but the states that have the worst infection rate seem to be mostly in the south (where I am), and those same states just can't seem to get their act together and get the vaccinations done in an organized manner. They're ridiculously slow and they continue to fumble the ball at every opportunity. They appear to be making such a circus out of the process that I've lost interest.

A hospital in Houston has offered it's staff members a $500.00 bonus if they get vaccinated. I see where Dollar General is offering it's employees 4 hours worth of pay to get vaccinated. One would think that such front-line high-risk workers would be eager to get a vaccination, but apparently not. It looks to me as though the reported number of cases isn't even close — it's only the tip of the iceberg. It's so much trouble to have to register in advance, then sit in line for a long time, just to get tested, then by the time you receive your results you may have it anyway because everyone in line with you probably had it. Why would anyone want to do that unless they were so sick that they should be at the Emergency Room of a hospital, anyway. If you ask around, you discover that almost everyone working at local businesses has the virus, or recently had it. It's everywhere.

I've been laying so low that I'm beginning to feel like a snake. I reckon I'll have to lay a lot lower if I'm going to continue to evade it.

Well done, Laine. My partner is a nurse, has been vaccinated (one shot of pfizer) and recently worked on the covid ward which was apparently very grim. I wish I could get a vaccine as we share a small apartment, but just have to be patient, apparently.

I got the second dose Wednesday afternoon, woke up yesterday for work at 515am feeling like I got hit by a truck. Called into work sick ( felt bad about that )...and continued to just get worse feeling until like 4pm..took a bath with Epsom salts , had a Margarita in the tub with me..took some more Tylenol and felt way better by 8pm ..went to work today.

I have never had that sort of hard hitting, short lived reaction to anything before! And your arm is only really sore for ONE day, then you are good. I guess I’m used to tetanus shots where your arm is sore for 3 days..

I work with Covid patients daily. My assignment has been ICU for the past month and a half. And our regular ICU is all Covid patients..it’s awful and heartbreaking . So ya, no one had to convince me to get the vaccine. But, I have to do this for a living . I don’t have the option of just staying home! I understand it’s a personal decision. I get it. Do what you feel is right for you and your situation people...

Glad to hear you're feeling better! I'd heard the 2nd one was the hard one. I agree with Tex about the disorganization. I have an 80+ year old friend who is in AL. She called 400 times to get through and finally was able to set up an appointment two weeks out. One day later she got a call that there won't be any vaccine at that time but they will call her when it is available. She's not feeling very confident about that.

My husband is a respiratory therapist, so he see's covid everyday.
He got the second vaccine last week and his symptoms were exactly like Marcia's.
Low grade fever and achy for about 12 hours.
He planned it so that he would be off the day after the shot and was back to work the next day.
My sister is also a nurse and had zero effects from the second shot?
They both recieved Pfiezer.
Like you , Tex, i have never gotten a flu shot, with all my drug allergies i am so scared to take this vaccine, yet i know it is necessary.

I have had a reaction to every vaccine I have ever taken and am allergic to many medications. I talked with my pharmacist and she suggested I take Benadryl 24 hours before, the day of and several days after. I did that. I had my first shot on Saturday. I have had no issues except a sore arm but it is much better today.

They are very organized here in Tarrant County, Texas. I signed up on December 31st and got my shot January 16th. I am tired of staying home and going to work so hopefully the shot will allow a trip sometime soon!

I apologize for starting a new discussion about the vaccines before seeing how many there were already. It's taking a while for me to get used to this new board thing. The first was much easier to get around on and see what had been posted.

Anyhoo, I've had the first and second dose of Moderna and didn't have any problems with either. I do take a Zyrtec each morning, they may have helped me in some way

Received my second shot of Moderna vaccine last Wednesday. I had no issues but a sore arm. I took Benadryl for four days as I did the first time. I believe that is the solution for me.

I got my second Moderna shot yesterday. My arm is sore, but so far I haven't had any other reactions. No digestive issues from the first shot or this one.

I, like Tex, am in Texas. There was some confusion and a rather long wait for the first shot, but yesterday went smoothly. They seem to be getting the kinks ironed out of the process. The winter storm delayed a lot of shots, but that's not the fault of the health department.

I've been on wait lists at my hospital and my pharmacy since early January, and I finally got an appointment scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at the hospital at 5 pm.

Great news Tex! I'm still too young to meet Florida vaccination requirements.

Outside of the hospital scheduling it for 5 pm, so that I had to drive to the opposite side of a busy city during rush hour traffic, it all went smoothly after I found the unmarked location. Thank goodness for GPS.

I've noticed absolutely no symptoms at all from the vaccination (Pfizer). My second shot was automatically scheduled for March 23rd (at 5 pm, naturally). They seem to be well-organized, but it took them a long time to get started, because they were only receiving minimal amounts of vaccine, initially.

Since the State was in charge, they were hogging most of the vaccines, and sending them to huge, widely scattered "Hubs" (many miles away), previously. Younger (and more aggressive) people were out-maneuvering us old codgers to get appointments. The older folks, or those with severe disabilities, who need the vaccines the worst, are at a huge disadvantage in a 'first-come, first-served' arrangement, like the one the State was running.
