Fire is getting close.....

Post by annie oakley »

Wow...I called one of my daughters in Oklahoma....she said the fire was 4 1/2 mi from here. She said they got it put out but are still watching it for the hot spots. I also talked to one son in Ponca City Ok and he said they were fine there. It's been a busy and scaret first two days of the year right? Between weathe in California and fires in the south west.

Tex...are you still ok there? Love Oma

Hi Oma. Hope you stay safe & that the fires don't come any closer. I know how frightening they can be. It is really hotting up over here now too & it looks as though we may get a bad bushfire season. We need rain very badly & have not had a proper wet season, even up north, for years.

There are many fires across several states especially New South Wales, with eight homes being destroyed so far. Victoria & South Australia are in a bit of bother as well. A 21-year-old firefighter suffered third degree burns to 60 per cent of his body when he was trapped in his tractor at the side of a road. 44 deg c (about 111 deg F) heat and strong winds fanned more than 40 blazes across that state. Total fire bans have been declared in a lot of areas. There has been a fire about an hour north of here but is under control. Once again some of these fires have been deliberately lit. A watch is being kept of about 30 known arsonists.

Hi Oma,

We've had only small fires in this area, so far--nothing to get excited about. There was a lot of smoke in the air this morning, from the fires NW of us, that you mentioned yesterday. The wind wasn't very high here, when the norther came through this morning--only about 15-20 mph.

Love,
