March of the Penguins

Post by Peggy »

Polly - I think it was you that first mentioned seeing this movie? We watched it over the holidays and really really enjoyed it. We watched the whole 'making of' too. I'd recommend it to anyone!

I received the movie for Christmas and until your post, forgot I had it! Guess I better get watchin'!

I collect penguins and have heard nothing but good reviews on the movie! What an addition to my collection.

Thanks for the review Peg!

Love,
Mars

There was an article in the New York Times today
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/03/scien ... .html?8dpc
about cuteness and several times penguins were mentioned. It turns out they have the cute "tuxedo effect" so their dorsal side is dark, making them hard to see from above (by predators) when they're in the water, and their ventral side white, so they're hard to see from below (by prey). Their "cute" waddle is actually an energy saving device.

I don't know if you have to sign up with the New York Times to read the article, but if you do, it's free. We enjoy reading it on line.

I got the movie for Christmas as well. It is a wonderful movie and amazing how they filmed in such extreme weather conditions. I do have to say it was a lot more dramatic on the big screen.....loved Morgan Freeman's voice too!
