Hi guys!!
I went to go see a naturopath who put me on different supplements like SBI protect, Boswellia akba, l glutamine, vitamin d3 etc...
Apart from all this she suggested I try the pepto protocol and stop Cholestyramine. I followed her instructions and currently on day 6 with no luck. I had yellow burning D today
I texted my GI and told him I was doing this protocol and if I could combine with Cholestyramine and he said yes.
Have any of you tried the protocol with success?
Have you had to combine with Cholestyramine?
Have any of you had any success with natural supplements?
How can I reduce inflammation in my colon naturally?
Will this bile acid issue go away when I reduce inflammation?
I’m at my wits end I have two little kids at home and this is so much to deal with. Budesonide was no good for me only tried for a month and it gave me muscle pains so that’s not an option for me.
I currently do GF, dairy free, soy free, no caffeine, no alcohol etc etc

Re: Pepto protocol
Either you have BAM or you don't. If you do, then no other treatment besides colestyramine is going to work. But you will have to experiment until you find the correct dose, in order to make it work. Anti-inflammatories such as budesonide or Pepto-Bismol, or virtually any other medication can be used concurrently with cholestyramine, just don't take them at the same time. But if you have BAM, those anti-inflammatories will not stop the diarrhea. Only colestyramine will do that. Your symptoms sound as though you have BAM.
Natural supplements typically won't even put a dent in MC. You would have to take a wheelbarrow full of them in order to get enough active ingredient to be effective, and of course you can't do that.
At least, those are my thoughts.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Re: Pepto protocol
I did the Pepto thing twice over the years. The second time it just colored my diarrhea black. I believe that if you truly have bile acid issues, those anti inflammatory meds don’t do anything for you . I did Budesonide twice and it definitely wasn’t a miracle drug for me. I distinctly remember calling the GI doc and asking if I could take pepto with the Budesonide . I sorta think pepto kinda helps BAM sometimes....because you are taking like 3 pepto tablets 3x per day so maybe it actually neutralizes the bile acid some. My 2 cents anyway..

Re: Pepto protocol
Hello. I am a Pepto success story. My GI recommended 2 tablets 4x day for 8 weeks. After a few weeks I cut back to 6/day because it caused C. I did not have to take any other medication. I achieved remission after the Pepto by eliminating gluten, dairy, soy, raw fruit & vegetables. I read Tex's book which lists other foods to avoid. I am in remission for 7 years. I have not had a bad flare and I never cheat. Good luck on your journey to healing.
Marcia

Re: Pepto protocol
Thank you all for your answers. I think the pepto protocol is doing it’s job I had the most normal but not perfect poops I’ve had since this whole thing started!
I hope once week 8 rolls by I can be in remission as well
