New research shows how our Western diet causes IBDs:

Western diet may increase risk of gut inflammation, infection

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thank you for this, tex. I've been addicted to fat probably all of my life. If I go too long (just a few hours in the morning) without adequate amounts of fat my hands start shaking, and if I go way too long it feels like the insides of my body are shaking. Then I eat some fat and get calm again. After joining this forum a week ago I have started the BRAT cleanse. I have mostly been able to keep the shakes away because my gluten-free bread has oil and I ingest about 50 grams of fat each day from the amount of toast I eat.

Since I am pre-diabetic I watch my A1c and take my fasting glucose almost every day. I notice a direct correlation between the amount of fat that I eat and my glucose readings. This is a trend in that if I go a few days and just eat a small amount of fat my fasting glucose will definitely start to drop. In recent months I have been reducing my fat consumption and I am averaging around 100 in the mornings, with some readings in the 80s. I have averaged as much as 115 -125 in the past, and have had too many readings in the 130s. Again, when I consume more fat my glucose goes up.

Thanks for keeping us up on these things, tex.
