Herbs to stay away from
Hi all! In my continued battle against Lyme disease, I have appointments with both a licensed naturopathic physician that specializes in Lyme and an Infectious Disease Specialist this month. I've been on antibiotics twice (Amoxicillin and Azithromycin) for the Lyme and they really did a number on my system (and I'm still having Lyme symptoms). I am allergic to Doxycycline. I'm assuming that the naturopath will want to try some herbs. Any ideas of which herbs would be a no-no for MC? I know from past experience that any of the immune stimulants (such as echinacea) opens up the diarrhea floodgates. Thanks!

Prior to MC Dx, I had been using liquid herbs for about 10 years.
Since MC, I can not tolerate liquid herbs at all.
if wanting to use herbs, I use them as a homeopathy spray on my tongue. I dont take any herbs directly.
I wouldn't be worried about not taking any more antiobiotics
Impact of Antibiotics
When consuming antibiotics for Lyme disease, the Lyme spirochete changes form to evade the antibiotic in order to protect itself. The spirochete bacteria opens up and morphs into a cyst type shape for protection, changing back into a spirochete once the stressor(antibiotic) is removed. This is why chronic Lyme sufferers often don’t respond well to antibiotics or shortly after they stop symptoms return.
Above all, antibiotics damage the gut lining, cause gut dysbiosis and wreck mitochondria, the energy production part of a cell. In addition, antibiotics don’t cross the blood-brain barrier very effectively leaving those affected with brain fog, concentration issues and mood disturbances still suffering after treatment.
Long term treatment of chronic Lyme with herbal medicine as well as targeted vitamin and mineral therapy is a much better option. Supporting the body while eradicating the pathogen is a must during a long treatment phase.

Thanks Gabes! After 2 horrendous rounds of antibiotics, my recent bloodwork showed zero reactive bands (I had 8/10 in June) and negative for all tick borne disease bacteria.
I do however have a lot of deficiencies and my female hormones are low. I did a timed cortisol saliva test yesterday because my bloodwork showed abnormal levels.
Currently I have nausea every morning and debilitating fatigue, which I suspect the root cause to be MC.
Surprisingly, my naturopath hasn’t given me a bunch of stuff to take; only vitamins for which my bloodwork showed deficiencies. She is having me trial L Glutamine.

Hi Jessica and Gabes,
Are there any doctors you recommend to those of us with MC and Lyme who are looking for healing and guidance? I have yet to find a doctor who can help me.
Sincerely,
Annika

I am based in Australia so have limited knowledge of medical practitioners in USA that can assist
I would research functional practitioners for the Lyme.
Also do a search on this site, as other members have had lyme and treated it
