please advise for foodsupplements

Post by sonja »

Hi all,

I like it to be on the board again and especially to read the recent success stories, which are -just like mine- mostly caused by diet and lifestyle changes.
Thank you all for sharing this stories.

I have a question of multivitamins, because I wonder if it should be better to stop them.
I am in remission for some years and stick to my diet. I drink soup from homemade bonebroth daily. I think that is my most important medicine!
I use magnesium and Vitamin D and know that they are essential.
But then:
I take vitamin C.
I use fish oil from the Vitaminshop. I know it is made of ansjovis, what is safe for me.
I take multivitamins, also from the Vitaminshop. This is my most important concern. A few years ago I noticed they were not soy free, but because I did well on them for some years I continued taking them. But I wonder if it is not better to stop. Of course my diet lacks a lot of food, but I ate daily meat (chicken and lamb) and/or fat fish. I eat a lot of veggies, eggs and some fruits, a lot of nuts, olive oil and a lot of coconut oil. And of course bone broth!
(I take hormone replacement medicine.)

I should very much like to get advice about this supplements and I should like to hear your experiences with supplements, besides magnesium and Vit. D.
Much love to all of you

Hi Sonja,

I have a very limited diet, also. Bananas are the only fruit I eat, and I eat no vegetables. So I take about a dozen vitamins and minerals. I tested positive to soy at EnteroLab, but so far, the tiny amounts in some vitamins haven't caused any problems that I can detect. For example, for a multivitamin, I take Centrum Silver, and I'm pretty sure that it contains traces of soy, but I could be wrong. Otherwise, I always try to select vitamins with a safe ingredient list, whenever possible.

That said, I'm not absolutely certain that I would need all these vitamins, but I also have methylation issues, so some of the B vitamins, for example, are in an activated form. Meat contains all of the essential amino acids, so theoretically, if we eat enough meat, it should supply our needs. But the main reason for taking vitamins and minerals is long-term health, so we're talking about longevity here, so I'd rather err on the safe side.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
