Can sensitivities get worse?

Post by SallySage »

Forgive me if this has been addressed before. I thought I read about it in the Microscopic Colitis book, but could not find it again...
Once you have been eating the phase one diet and achieved remission, can your reactions to gluten, etc., become worse than before? Thanks.

Hi Sally,

This is just my opinion, but as far as I can tell, initially, as we wean off gluten and casein, especially, our immune system becomes more sensitive, because gluten and casein, at least, produce opioid-like peptides when digested, and those peptides are basically as addictive as opium. So yes, our immune system sensitivity can increase initially, but after we're in remission long enough for our antibody levels to return to normal, our immune system sensitivity should decline to normal levels, again.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Very interesting. Thank you. I have been feeling so great...then accidentally ate some gluten hidden in Christmas ham! I was so sick from it. I appreciate your time.

my observation is that we are more likely to react to triggers during periods of stress, season changes etc.

also if the immune system is fighting a cold / virus then the reaction to a trigger will be more intense.
