Dairy substitutes-coffee creamers

Hi: Found out about MC about 3 months ago after suffering for about a year. My doctor mentioned it might be the cause and moved up my colonoscopy which confirmed it. The first thing I did is eliminate dairy after discovering your website which has been difficult as I am a big cheese lover. However, my question here is: what can I use as "cream" in my coffee. I have tried all of the "milks" and have trouble finding something that is tasteless since I have to stay away from oats, tree nuts etc. Also, is the new A2 milk or half and half still considered a no-no since it doesn't eliminate all the caseins?
Thanks to all of you for your advice shared here. I went to entero labs and found out the "whole story" including gluten, eggs, soy, corn, rice, tuna, beef, pork, oat, chicken, walnut, and last but not least, white potato. I also went to a gastroenterologist at MGH and he hooked me up with a study there that is working on, not a cure, but treatments for alleviation of symptoms. I liked the Doc as he seems openminded
and, best of all, has a good sense of humor!

Hi,
Welcome to the board. Not only are products that include milk of any form off-limits if you're sensitive to casein, but virtually all of the nondairy coffee creamer's contain casein derivatives, so they are all off-limits also. When MC is active, we're all sensitive to lactose, because it's a symptom of inflammation, but the casein is a much worse problem than lactose, and that eliminates all dairy products from a casein free diet. In my case, I solved the problem by simply using three sugar cubes in each cup of coffee. It may not be the same, but it works for me.
Have you tried hemp milk? It tastes similar to most nut milks, but I stopped using it because it caused bloating for me, although it didn't cause diarrhea.

Good morning,
What are your thoughts on coconut milk? There are canned options with no guar or other gums and powdered options that contain only 2.5 % of tapioca maltodextrin from yucca and 0.5% acacia fiber?

Good morning Tricia,
Sorry for the slow response. We had some weather problems yesterday that started when lightning struck A wheat field and set it on fire. Fortunately the rain, and the local fire department were able to get it under control.
Regarding coconut milk, most of us are able to tolerate it just fine, and it's a high calorie food, in case you need the extra calories during recovery. I haven't looked for it lately, but back when I was recovering, I was able to find 100% canned coconut milk that was pure (free of additives). Some supermarkets keep such items in special ethnic sections. I only use 100% pure canned coconut milk, but it worked great for me.

Glad you are ok after that lightening strike!!
I have been using coconut milk for all my dairy substitutes for about five years now and it has never made me feel bad so I am happy to hear it is probably not causing me trouble. At 5’10” I am trying to keep my weight from going much below 120lbs and adding coconut milk to tea, broth etc seems to be a tolerable way to drink my calories when food is not staying with me well.
I have ordered your book and really appreciate your information as my GI basically just scheduled my a follow up for mid August and “we’ll see how I’m doing” but had no other suggestions than take budesonide and stop NSAIDS (which I have not taken any NSAIDS for probably a decade so I don’t think that is a contributing factor).
