Fish not an option?

Post by 7557cs »

Hello, this is my first post. I've noticed nothing is said about eating fish. I've just been changing my diet to eat more meat as I finally realized that my body did not like beans, lentils, etc.
I was dx with celiac and microscopic colitis in 2005. Generally all went well excepting for occasional gluten issues eating out. In 2014 I first had trouble with what I now understand was with the MC. That was rare but recently, much more. At different times in my life, before celiac, I wouldn't eat apples, or have coffee for an extended time and then all was well. Now, to think about going back to a basic diet, in the Summer(!) is a bummer.
I really appreciate this support site, I like how you have it organized, easy to find topics.

welcome to the group and I am glad the categories/organisation of information has been easy to follow

re fish
like many things in mc world it is ok for some and not for others

my other observation with seafood is that quality of fish is very different across states and countries.
it depends where it comes from
farmed fish supply is feed lots of grain (gluten/soy etc)
in other areas fish (farmed and wild) can be high in metals and other toxins

I personally can tolerate fish ok and being in Australia we have affordable wild caught fish that have minimal toxins.

Hi there!
Also new...as of today! Sorry I didn't give a comment to your question back in July! Lol
I was just diagnosed with severe MC- both LC and CC found throughout my whole colon. Terrible!
I don't eat a lot of meat. Don't touch beef or pork (just a preference). I also live in Salem Ma near the coast, so we have beautiful fish markets here. It's been super tolerable on my stomach, even before my diagnosis.
I see what the other person posted meant, but i have to disagree. Most animals, chickens, cows, and pigs eat grains. You're not eating what they're eating. You should be fine. Unless you going with organic raised cows and chickens as well. Just remember, some gluten people might have problems with eggs- cage free or not.
Im still trying to figure all this 💩 out! Hope I've been helpful and not too confusing!

Hi

I saw your post from september just now.
My blood was tested for IGG antibodies some years ago. It showed extremely high antibodielevels for 9 fishes (and 17 fishes with low antibodies), not especially certain kinds of fish. So many fishes are totally save for me, but others are definitely not.
I think the only way to find out is testing or trying one by one.
