Recently being diagnosed (April 2022) with LC, and getting over the first
few months of diarrhea -- now, I'm struggling with constipation - so bad, I
was hospitalized. I'm not on budesonide or any other meds; possibly the probiotic, Florastor (contains yeast), I had
taken for diarrhea (in spring) may have contributed to my constipation.
My soft diet consists of much white rice, a few well-cooked, peeled, low fiber veggies, chicken, turkey,
fish, etc. - no gluten, dairy, soy, sugar (eliminated these since my IBS diagnosis in 2016). My water intake is up to 2.5 to 3 qts per day.
My GI doctor has me taking Miralax & Colace 2-in-1, as needed. Last
week he ordered a colonoscopy-prep, too -- that I am avoiding since being
in the hospital & cleaned out with this.
All these chemicals are only making my colon & hemorrhoids sore. Since April, I have lost too much
weight and these products are not helping.
After learning about magnesium glycinates' role in constipation, I plan to try this soon.
Would you have suggestions on an herbal remedy - like Aloe Juice (what kind (no additives), how much & when to take,
), or the watered-down prune juice I have been trying (prune juice has 4g fiber straight), as this had worked for me pre-LC, but
doesn't appear to be now. Thank you so very much for your help.

Hello. Sorry you're suffering with constipation. Maybe you want to try magnesium citrate. I've read that it can help with constipation.

Thank you for your suggestion. This is worth a try. I'm drinking 1 cup of prune juice, have increased drinking water, increased fiber -- prunes are next!

Re: Constipation-HELP! How to Manage with Prunes, Aloe, What?
my suggestions:
increase oil/fat intake. spoonful of coconut oil or fatty meats
increase water intake
increase Vit D and magnesium intake to reduce inflammation and help the body pass the poop
avoid things with high fibre recommended by mainstream medicine, as this will bulk up the stool and make it harder to pass

Thank you for your suggestions. I have been drinking 2 to 3 quarts of water per day, increased coconut & olive oil on food (chewing food much more thoroughly), and have been taking magnesium, but not D3 yet. Also, as per Wayne's suggestion -- drinking prune juice, and today ate 2 prunes -- as the sorbitol should also help move things along. I've been concerned about the fiber (4g) in the prune juice and hope this doesn't back things up. Today went better. I was considering aloe juice, but am concerned about how it could be harmful to other organs.
