Hi Tex and all,
I was reading about Banatrol Plus on the Colitis FB page and some were having good luck with this product. I went online and saw that it contained milk powder so that's not going to work for me. I searched for products of just banana flakes both regular and green and found several with just the one ingredient.
Has anyone tried banana flakes to help with D. Seems like many people with colitis and IBS use it smoothies, yogurt etc. to help with firming up stools.
Tex....any thoughts on this or do you think it's better just to add green banana to smoothies as a whole food? I put a link to a study below and to an example of a product available online.

That's good news about resolving the relapse. Regarding banana flakes, I once tried some dried plantain chips. They tasted great, but they really upset my apple cart on histamine problems. Since eating them, which was probably about a year ago, I can't eat anything with even moderate amounts of histamine, anymore, without reacting. Back when I was recovering I just added frozen bananas to smoothies, and they worked great for me. I've never tried banana flakes.

I think I will just stick to the real banana. My smoothy is pretty simple I put in half a banana, cinnamon, one dollop of sunflower butter with "So Delicious Unsweetened Coconut Milk" and plain coconut yogurt. My favorite snack now is sliced banana on plain coconut yogurt with a bit of cinnamon :)
How much banana did you put in your daily smoothy while recovering.
Now that you are in recovery what does that look like? Do you mind giving us a window into the foods you find you can live on and have a pretty normal life. I know this will be different for each of us, but it would be nice to hear where you've ended up with all your years of experience.
I also found I don't do well with histamines....I can't do bone broth without getting prickly sensations on my torso...also happens when I try any peptide powders.
I look forward to recovery someday :)

I usually added either a small to medium-size banana, or half a large one. I used pure (100%), canned coconut milk, because I needed the extra calories.How much banana did you put in your daily smoothy while recovering.
You probably meant "Now that you are in remission", because I recovered almost 18 years ago. My food sensitivities include gluten, casein, soy, legumes, beef, and probably some that I can think of at the moment. Fortunately, I'm not sensitive to chicken eggs or pork, so for many years I ate bacon and eggs for breakfast, and occasionally pancakes with maple syrup, or Chex gluten-free cereal with almond milk. And I ate pork sausage, porkchops, country ribs, pork steak (all of which were usually grilled on weekends, and then frozen), air fried chicken, deep fried catfish, baked turkey (with gluten-free dressing for Thanksgiving), ham, venison, gluten-free spaghetti (made from corn), with Pace picante sauce, frozen bananas with almond or cashew butter, French fries, mashed potatoes, hash browns, and probably a few other things that I've forgotten about.Now that you are in recovery what does that look like? But as I've gotten older, I've gotten lazier, and I've simplified my cooking routine a great deal in order to save time and effort. These days, I don't generally cook individual meals, except for breakfast. I still cook breakfast every day. Otherwise, when I cook, I make enough to last at least a couple of weeks or so, and just warm up the frozen meal size individual servings in a microwave. My diamine oxidase enzyme production is evidently continuing to decline, because I had to stop eating bacon and frozen bananas, almond butter, cashew butter, and even almond milk (because of histamine problems), so now I no longer eat the cereal, either.
These days, I usually eat two eggs and a breakfast sausage patty for breakfast. About once a week I eat pancakes with Smuckers 100% fruit blackberry jam, and a breakfast sausage patty. And the rest of my food consists of various types of pork (usually pork steak, porkchops, or country ribs), eaten with tortilla chips and Fritos, as a source of carbs. I don't usually salt the meat, because there's more than enough salt in the tortilla chips and Fritos. Other than breakfast, I don't waste much time preparing meals, and I don't miss doing all the cooking that I did in the past, nor do I crave more variety in my meals.
