Ground turkey
Can anyone suggest any brands of ground turkey that are soy free?
I’ve been emailing different companies inquiring into their “natural flavorings” and rosemary extract carrier oils, but they don’t even seem to know.!?!
Thank you!

Re: Ground turkey
Since no one else made any suggestions, I'll take a stab at this. I've never searched for safe ground turkey, before, so I googled it. But Google only came up with some discussions about homemade turkey, so I did an AI inquiry, and it claims that the following brands are additive free:
1. Plainville Farms
2. Shady Brook Farms
3. Applegate Farms
4. Perdue Harvestland
5. Jennie-O
6. Butterball Natural Inspirations
7. Honeysuckle White
8. Nature's Promise
9. Bell & Evans
10. Smart Chicken
But as I said, I haven't tried any of these, personally.

Re: Ground turkey
Most of the fresh ground turkey (and also chicken) contain rosemary extract, in my experience. It's a sneaky way to add nitrates, without having to declare it on the packaging.
Your best bet is to look for frozen ground turkey, as I have had good luck there.

Re: Ground turkey
One I've been able to find without additives or rosemary extract is Diestel ground turkey at 365 WF. (Whole Foods)
Hope this helps.

Re: Ground turkey
Rosie,
I especially requested a list of brands of ground turkey sold without any injected rosemary extract, tenderizer, or any other additives. But as you suggested, I wouldn't trust AI any farther then I could throw it (as we used to say about untrustworthy individuals). I added another forum category this morning:

if anyone knows of any reliably safe products (or notices any products listed there that they know are not safe) they can add their experiences (or suggested corrections) there.

Re: Ground turkey
I've always been puzzled by folks posting about "safe" ground turkey!!! Wow, when I was at my lowest point 6 years ago, I was crazy about what I put in my mouth!!! I never did ground turkey because I didn't trust ANY brand...I either just ate "non ground" (breast, thigh, whatever) or ground my own from turkey breast if I had to have "ground" turkey!!! Make your own ground turkey people!!!!

Re: Ground turkey
Laine, what do you use to make your own ground turkey? I've thought of that, but didn't want to invest a lot of money in another tool. Thanks!

Re: Ground turkey
Well, I have a Kitchen Aid mixer and have the meat grinder attachment! I'm sure there are easier, cheaper ways to do it...like an old school meat grinder that you just crank!

Re: Ground turkey
Thanks! I've been doing a Google search. There are a lot of options & not too expensive.
