Candles and Wax Melts etc.

Post by cloud9er »

Hi all,

For those of us sensitive to ingredients such as soy, can we have soy candles in our home please?

I see that no one has responded to this, so I'll offer my opinion. I've never used any candles containing soy, so I did a quick Internet search, and found that some people claim to tolerate them just fine, while others disagree. The safest candles for people who have food sensitivities are said to be candles made of pure beeswax.

I react worse to soy than gluten so do everything to avoid it, so that includes candles and melts.

current day soy is a 'shite' product. Most of what is used in foods is waste product of product and not digestible.

When our bodies are inflamed we do react to more than just foods, we do react to toxins in the air.
My MC lifestyle approach is to avoid major triggers as much as possible to keep inflammation levels down. that way if I do have contact with a major trigger in a small amount, it is not likely to cause major flare.

Hi Tex and Gabes,

Thank you for your replies! My instinct is to avoid soy candles and I would usually opt for high quality beeswax candles with essential oils. The reason I am checking is that we have a parrot, the parrot shop we order from have ‘parrot safe’ candles which are unfortunately made from soy! I miss candles you see. I will continue hunting for parrot safe as well as Amy safe ‘smellies’ 😂😂 I’m not sure if water diffusers and essential oils are safe for parrots.

Kind Regards,

Amy

Why on earth aren't beeswax candles safe for parrots? Maybe it's safe for them to eat soy based candles (as long as they don't have a soy sensitivity), but not beeswax based candles.

I decided to experiment with this situation yesterday (Nov 16) and used a peppermint scented wax melt. Today I have had a definitively looser stool along with some minor intestinal discomfort (and a headache).

Obviously, this is not very scientific, but unless I've contracted a respiratory virus I don't know of anything else that could have caused the loose stool. I have been doing well the last 3 and a half months - consistently solid stools (1 or 2 per day) and I have even gained 15 pounds so I don't think it could be just a variation in my symptoms (what's left of them anyway).

The wax melt that I used did not list the ingredients of the wax itself.

Is using essential oils in a mister usually safe? I thought that maybe which scent would make a difference but since the scents are created using distillation it would be unlikely.

Hi, Amy. I've wondered the same thing & I have avoided burning soy candles just to be safe. It's not worth it to not feel well.
