Bouts of Remission with Proctitis

Post by Cran3 »

Hi everyone!

A few months ago, I posted about my issues with a perianal abscess and my GI doctors who insisted I had Crohn’s on top of my CC. Well, it’s been a while, and I don’t have Crohn’s—as expected. I never thought I did. I got a colonoscopy last month. My new GI said my CC is now considered “mild,” which I guess is better than previous years where they just said it was “regular.”

Since I had my abscess drainage surgery, they pumped me up on antibiotics (yay), and once I regained my footing, my body has been healing quite well. I added more probiotics into my diet during this time, too. I don’t have as many issues with my CC as I used to. For years, I have made almost all of my meals at home, and I avoid grains, dairy, and most sugars. Pretty paleo.

I’m writing today because I’ve been dealing with a new problem since healing from my surgery. I take psyllium husk fiber with my dinner, and while it does help, I notice occasionally that a super-hard stool can make my anus flare up, which my doctor referred to as Proctitis. Does anyone else deal with this too? And how do you treat it? I have a bidet, which helps a ton, but I also use alcohol-free wet wipes. It is a true pain in the butt.

I think it’s funny, though, to deal with diarrhea for YEARS—only to have hard stool and gain a new issue from it.

Happy holidays, and thanks for any insight!

I'm reading your post and wish I could offer some advice but I've not had this problem. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

Hang in there.

Hey Grahm,

I appreciate the kind thoughts. I'm hopeful that I will figure this out! :D
