What type of Magnesium is recommended?

Post by lilbits@144 »

Hi, new here. Looks like I have landed in the right place. Currently dealing with a major flare due to stress over my mother being in hospice and a LOT of poor diet choices. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and didn't receive any real help in managing my condition other than take Imodium. I've admittedly been in denial about my condition and now I am paying dearly for that mistake. Anyway glad to be here. So can anyone tell me which type of Magnesium one should take for MC?

Hi,

Welcome to the group. I believe most of us here have found Doctors Best brand of Magnesium Glysinate (Chelated Magnesium) to work well.

Stress seems to be a big problem for us. It can cause an MC relapse or increased symptoms.

Again, welcome aboard, and please feel free to ask anything.

Thanks Tex! Can I take this during an active flare? I am going to use Entero Labs to pinpoint my sensitivities. In the past I have had blood tests that defined "sensitivities" however didn't find that very effective. Now I know why! Read the newsletter from November 2020 that explained why stool testing is so much better. So informative!! After finding this website yesterday, I now know what I need to do diet wise. Currently taking budesonide for my flare and it has helped however now that I am armed with information I am in the process of overhauling my diet. Ordered Persky's book on the MC diet which will arrive tomorrow. I am on a mission to regain my health as I have a lot more living to do! Thanks so much for being here!

You can probably take a magnesium supplement while you're recovering. Most of us can. Magnesium glycinate is one of the easiest absorbed, and one of the least likely magnesium supplements to cause diarrhea. That said, too much may cause diarrhea (especially forms such as magnesium citrate), and a few of us may have diarrhea even from small doses. If that should happen, you may have to settle for foot soaks in a basin with Epsom salts, or soaking for 15 or 20 minutes a couple of times per week in bathwater in which a cup of Epsom salts have been absorbed. And because of that risk, I wouldn't take more than the RDA (at least not during a flare).

Thanks! I do have Magnesium Glycinate so I will start taking that. I sent my DNA report to have it tested for Methylation Gene Mutations. Turns out I do have gene mutations on MTHFD1 and MTHFR as well as MTR and MTRR. I have ordered the Methyl-Guard Plus from Thorne to address this issue. Quite a journey with lots of twists and turns. Hanging on for the ride.

Thank you. I will be forever grateful to have found this site. So very, very helpful! Prior to find this site I was feeling very overwhelmed, anxious, and depressed. Things are looking up!
