Newly Diagnosed with MC
I just recently got the diagnosis of MC. I am so overwhelmed as to where to start with my diet. I have been GF/DF since 2020 and eat a lot of salads and veggies along with salmon, shrimp, chicken and Bisson. I do not eat sugar. I am 5’ tall and weigh 98 lbs and am continuing to lose weight due to the diarrhea. Can someone please lead me in the right direction of where I can find what I should be eating/avoiding? I drink a lot of water but have been having headaches due to dehydration from the diarrhea. I started using Gatorade Zero but some sites say it’s bad to use with MC?? Totally overwhelmed and confused!!! Please HELP!

For now I would avoid salads (fibre causes inflammation)

Re: Newly Diagnosed with MC
Hi ChayT,
Even though I was diagnosed fourteen years ago, I only recently found this community and started following the plan that Gabes talks about. It’s been a tough and challenging journey, but I believe we’re doing the best we can to manage this disease.
Honestly, I think you have a golden opportunity to heal faster. You haven’t been diagnosed for long, and your intestines aren’t as damaged as mine, which have been inflamed for years. So I encourage you to give it a try, to be persistent and disciplined. I’m sure you’ll be able to reap the rewards of your efforts.
I also encourage you to read the books Tex has written about the disease. I believe part of the healing process is understanding it thoroughly and learning about all the mechanisms that occur in our bodies when we get sick.

* Understanding Microscopic Colitis
* The Microscopic Colitis Diet Book

I’m including a link to the first thread I started. In it, you can see my progress and the things that were recommended to me. Maybe it can help you in some way.

Don’t worry about the weight; it’s normal to lose it. I’m 5'1" and weigh 89 pounds, but a few months ago, I was down to 86. We’ll regain it once the intestines are healed.
I wish you lots of luck and encouragement.
A big hug,
Marta
