White Matter in Brain

Thanks for helping me to get on board.

I have a mystery with my brain. I was diagnosed about 3 1/2 years ago with a Pseudo-Seizure. Spent several days in the hospital in Bluffton, SC. I have had Cat Scans, MRI, and all sorts of brain scans. All look normal except my scan at Hilton Head Hospital, SC. There is slight white matter in my brain. I looked on-line and it said people find this stuff when they are examining the brain for something else.

I found some information on Celiac's forum that said people with Celiac will sometimes show white matter in their brain. I went for decades drinking dairy, eating oatmeal, eating white bread made with wheat and consumed this stuff most of my life. I longer do that. It's so hard to find a neurologist these days, but I got an appointment with one in Statesboro, GA. I did not need a referral. I want to know about this white matter in my brain. Has anyone heard about this? Thanks, Dorothy

Have you had a previous scan that showed less white matter than this one? The reason I ask is because virtually all of us develop white matter in our brain up until our 40s, and then white matter development seems to slow down. But of course it can increase as we get older, if we have certain problems. So if you had a scan in your 40s or later, and it shows less white matter than your latest scan, that would probably be a sign of an abnormal white matter increase. But simply having white matter in the brain is common, unless it's an abnormal amount.

Apparently it can be affected by various influences, such as diet and stress. And of course it can be affected by disease. It's claimed that eating healthy fats, such as olive oil, can decrease white matter in the brain. And on the other hand, we've all had plenty of stress to increase white matter, so we may all have elevated levels of white matter in our brains because of the stress, for all I know. And I believe they told me the last time I had a brain scan (after my stroke seven years ago) that our brain shrinks as we age.
