hold the mushrooms

Post by alim24 »

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone else has issues with mushrooms. Sautéed mushrooms were actually the last thing I ate 17 years ago before my first stomach gurgles and it hasn't stopped since then. I haven't eaten them a bunch since then, but every time I do my stomach gets torn up. I finally made the official correlation this week after making an AIP meal with ingredients I eat all the time without severe issues (I mean, i always have WD, but not like this!!). It could only have been the mushrooms.

So what does it mean?? I try to use the few clues I get, and this is one of the most direct clues I have ever gotten. Can it be an enzyme issue? Or a FODMAP issue?

Anyone else struggle with mushrooms?

Either you are unable to produce the enzyme that breaks down trehalose (which could easily be the case if your intestines are still inflamed), or you're allergic to the proteins in mushrooms.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
