D turns to C, but is really D - Histamine & Methyl Guard Plus
Hello everyone, Is this board even active anymore ? Tex & Gabe are you still here time to time. I hope to hear from you !
Its been along time since I have been in here. The reason is with all I learned in here about diet I have been pretty stable and if I slip into a flare I know right away how to fix it. ...Till now
Recently I got in to a bit of a crisis. I went through a horrible nightmare with going into Septic Shock. ( the biggest nightmare was my MC reared it's ugly head and honest to god the ICU doctors said they have never seen so much D, I was going 50 -60 times day, they charted it. They called in GI specialists from all over. I was bed ridden and had to use a bed pan and they would put that under me and get me cleaned up and before they could leave the room I went again and again this would go on. MC flare in a hospital is so awful. I have PTSD for sure.
Anyway the Septic shock was caused by a kidney stone that couldn't be seen without a microscope ( a bit of an exaggeration but it truly it was small and shouldn't have caused all the problems it did )
Well anyway of course I had to have massive IV antibiotics for 15 days, which is what made the D so bad. Then shortly after I survived that I had major dental surgeries and needed pain meds and I don't tolerate any opioids and I took some Celebrex and Tylenol Dual Action, which is a combo of Tylenol & Ibuprofen .
So well you all know what has followed. Massive MC flare. I am going along in this really bad flare that started Dec 20th and I am going 20 - 30 times a day to the bathroom. Then in one day I go from severe D to SEVERE C. Like a switch went off and went from D to C. I mean really bad C. In fact it is so bad I am thinking my pelvic has collapsed . ( I do have several prolapses )
At this time don't know if my issue is MC with C or prolapse. I see the urogynocologist next week. But I sorta think this is the MC. Anyway I am doing a very strict meat only diet and the C has switched back to D, a bit. It is D but with a hard time getting it out so I have C with getting the D out. How crazy is this ?
I can't find any info on how to manage the C. All the stool softeners and laxatives make me worse ( because I really have D but I can't get it out of me ) and there is no way I can take in any fiber. OMG that stuff about kills me with pain and makes the C much worse.
1. So I would like advice or shared experiences on MC with really bad C. How to manage it. Is it even possible to have a MC flare that goes from D to C but a person still has D but it won't come out so it is called C. I can't even figure out how ask this question.
2. Second question is I am really struggling with histamine, to point I can't sleep. I am on a strict meat only diet and that aligns with the low histamine diet. I think I am doing it right. ( I am careful to not eat any slow cooked meats or freezer foods and no meats sitting out on counter, or any leftovers etc. Anyone have any advice on this. Can histamine issues happen in the brain and cause insomnia ( i know it happens in the gut brain )
3. Third question is I am taking Throne Methl-Guard Plus. Should that be taken a couple times a day while I am in a flare and when do I take it ? Morning or night ? with food or without. Does this stuff cross the blood, brain, barrier ( BBB )
Thank you to every one who can help through this ! I am so lost with all this and I am sorry if all this confusing. I am not of sound mind right now !

Hi Rebecca,
It sounds like you could use a kind conversation at this point. I’m so sorry you’re going through this.
I sense your body detoxing and it’s purging everything…in due time as well.
I have been able to stave off histamine with Allegra, and benedryl at night. I would do the Allegra….and try the benedryl see if it compliments this issue or not…it helped slow my gut down so I could get sleep…which is sooo important when we are in a flare.
I’m sure you are exhausted by the sounds of what you’ve been through.
Be sure to keep taking in liquids to stay hydrated and keep the kidneys happy. Food is completely up in the air, just do safe foods, minimal sugar, and as less stress that you can manage.
I wish you speed healing through this!

Hi Rebecca,
I'm sorry to hear of all the problems, and I can sympathize with you regarding the D turning to C and vice versa. I had alternating D and C sometimes what I was reacting, although apparently not as bad as in your case. In addition to the hydration issue that Erica mentioned, I have found that the little all goes a long way toward relieving C. I take a flaxseed oil capsule every morning, and fish oil seems to be even more of a lubricant. But yes, obstructions, stenoses, or prolapses can cause alternating C and watery D, but with those causes, the C should last for several days, before turning into a day or two of water D.
I could be wrong, of course, but with your symptoms, I suspect the problem is simply MC in a state of hyperactivity.
Incidentally, regarding histamine issues, as long as you avoid chicken and fish (and probably most shellfish) you should be avoiding all high histamine meats. But note that tea, coffee, and most carbonated drinks are relatively high histamine sources. Some medications tend to cause our body to produce excess histamine, also.
I wish I could suggest some magic formula, but I'm not aware of one. This is a tough disease to put into remission, once it gets going, because all the symptoms, and the stress caused by those symptoms, can create a self-perpetuating cycle.
I hope this helps.

Hi there Rebecca
wowsers - what a journey
my observation,
kidney stones are linked to magnesium deficiency
magnesium is also needed to moderate histamine levels
I understand the D that is kinda C, but really D!! again this is linked to low Vit D3 and magnesium
All the medications and time in hospital would have been toxin overload and depleted magnesium
use magnesium lotion on legs and stomach
Magnesium foot soaks (Epsom salts / magnesium chloride) this will help clear toxins
low dose spread through the day oral MC safe magnesium (doctors best Magnesium Glycinate)
be patient, it will take 8-16 weeks to fix magnesium deficiency
Happy Healing

Gabe's is right on the money about the kidney stones. The only time in my life that I had problems with kidney stones was when I developed a chronic magnesium deficiency, while taking vitamin D. The kidney stones were calcium based, because vitamin D enhances calcium absorption, but adequate magnesium is required to transported nutrients from the blood to the cells where it's needed. Without adequate magnesium, the calcium can end up in any organ, and especially in the kidneys.

GOOD MORNING ! Well morning here in Northern CA. I was so happy to see my old friends still in here! I kinda thought this board was shut down. There is so much fabulous info here and I know it helps many.
Thank you so much Erica , Tex & Gabes for your detailed responses that are so helpful. I truly appreciate the support and wisdom you guys share so freely.
OK, well about where I am with my weird issue. I saw a UC Davis urogynecologist and she thinks that the MC flare might have set off Neurogenic Bowel. This is something that people with a spinal injury have. Or Parkinson, MS type diseases get. I see another specialist on March 4th to dial in if this is really Neurogenic Bowel. ( I am seeing a pelvic floor PT next week )
At this point what does it matter, the issue I have is super charged inflammation. I need to treat this with all the healing tips you guys posted.
Erica I know you are spot on with my body detoxing and it’s purging everything. That was a lot of hard core drugs I took for a couple of months. I think those meds they saved my life with created a perfect storm for the MC to go wild.
I also think Tex you nailed it with the term " hyperactivity. " I think this is right. So I all I can do is stay strict with my diet and the Magnesium you all mentioned.
Gabes thank you for that reminder about the foot baths and also the oil. I feel a lot more hopeful with your thoughts and suggestions. I am really glad I could run it by you all.
MC with C is no joke - MC is no joke with D either !
Thank You so much for helping me once again !

Re: D turns to C, but is really D - Histamine & Methyl Guard Plus
I just noticed that we overlooked your Methyl Guard Plus question. I take mine first thing in the morning, but I'm not sure it matters. I have no idea whether it crosses the blood-brain barrier.
Incidentally, I assume they've checked out your thyroid function, because constipation is a symptom of hypothyroidism (although it can also be a symptom of a chronic magnesium deficiency). Certain antibiotics, and other drugs are notorious for depleting magnesium.

Re: D turns to C, but is really D - Histamine & Methyl Guard Plus
Thank you Tex for that info. I think I will ask for a thyroid test. I haven't had one in years. I took every ones advice in here and I am loading up on magnesium. I know that will help. My strict diet has me doing much better. I am grateful you all helped me through this. I needed a refresher course !
As far as the Methyl Guard Plus , I had to stop taking it. OMG I had the worst reaction to it . I was super dizzy and couldn't even stand up. I have no idea what that was about. I wrote to Thorne and they weren't helpful.

I'm sorry that you had a reaction to Methyl Guard Plus. I've never heard of that before.
I hope you continue to get better, despite that little setback.
