Total pain

Post by celia »

Good (or at least better!) Sunday morning,

My good friend Becca just returned from a 10 month stay in Korea. It was wonderful to see her but I took a risk and went to a restaurant with her. I ate a wrong food (maybe more than 1!) and starting Friday evening my left hip and lower back and spine went wacky.

I've been in total pain since then, can barely walk, hard to sit, and can only lay on one side. Fortunately it's finally improved this morning. I can actually stand up straight, although the pain isn't completely gone...getting closer though. It's reassuring to know that it's just a matter of time....

Becca teaches Dahn yoga. She showed me some good exercises for bone building. I find Dahn yoga much easier and fun that other forms of yoga. It seems like there's more movement and it isn't so complicated. It feels like something I could actually do.

Of course, after complaining about not having enough work, I have two writing projects to complete this week so the stress is on...although I'm tyring not to think of it in a stressful way. We leave for St. John's a week from Monday, so that's an absolute work deadline!

Have a beautiful day. Celia

P. S. I ordered Dr.Fine's test (gluten panel) hoping it will arrive in time to sending it in this week (by Thurs) but that's probably very optimistic thinking!

Celia....Hi, sounds like you had a major reaction. Are you sure it's the food and not something else? I hope you feel better soon. Eat bland a couple days. Love Oma

Oma,

I was also stressed that day with a Friday evening deadline for a volunteer project. I didn't work intelligently...didn't take breaks and skipped some meals. This IS one of the types of reactions that I get to food...pain in my hips and lower back. Usually it starts in the middle of the night, so that's a deviation but then my trangressions were at breakfast. I also wondered if it's something else, so I am not totally certain.

Thanks for your sage advice. I will go bland! Celia

Morning, Celia,

I hear ya! It seems weird that a food trigger would give us one-sided pain, doesn't it? But it happens to me when I eat dairy. My internist thinks I'm crazy (hey, what do THEY know?) but it happens every time I ingest dairy - I get left-sided neck/shoulder pain which usually leads to a headache. I NEVER have that problem otherwise.

Initially I thought the pain was due to aging and an old whiplash injury. But maybe we get a one-sided reaction because of an old injury??? Did you ever injure that hip?

Dairy is the only trigger that gives me one-sided pain. The other triggers cause generalized aches and pains - in almost all of the other joints and muscles. I was also one who had frequent fevers before I went into remission. Before I discovered the food connection, I wondered if I was developing arthritis or fibromyalgia or lupus.

I see you have ordered Dr. Fine's tests. I know you have been GF for a while, but you may be interested to know that I still had significant stool antibodies to gluten on a one-year followup test with Dr. Fine. I had been GF for that year, but of course, I probably wasn't too adept yet at avoiding gluten. However, Dr. Fine said it is not unusual for antibodies to persist for quite a while. It makes sense when you consider the theory behind immunization....... when you expose the body to an antigen in a vaccine, it develops antibodies that last for years. The tetanus shot, for example, only needs to be given every 10 years because the antibodies hang around all that time.

I hope you feel better ASAP. And that you get all of your work done so that you can look forward to your vacation! :vacationsign:

Love,

Polly

Polly,

It's so helpful to hear your experience with dairy! Sometimes I feel like I'm nuts, but as you point out, I ONLY get pain like that when I eat a trigger food. If I drank a glass of milk it typically would appear in the knees. I haven't done that for a decade.

I usually get pain on the left side which, as you correctly guess, was injured in an accident many years ago. I was hit by a car on my bike and it ran right into the side of my left leg. But it does still come sometimes on the right, and sometimes on both sides together! It jumps around. But I was thinking the same thing, how strange it is to be on one side if it's an auto-immune type reaction. It's so helpful to know I am not alone with this...or crazy! None of the doctors I've seen for the last few years seem to beleive that my symptoms could be caused by food.

It's also encouraging to know you got a positive on Dr. Fine's test too. I realize it could go either way, but I did order the whole shebang to be as comprehenisve as possible.

Polly, you are a terrific person! I'm so glad you are onboard here! Celia

My first post :flyingdoveleft: out the wondow
Anyway I had said how foutunate I am that I never had any pain from a trigger food---

The only things that triggered me was LACTOSE and I didnt even know what that meant---(going back -wow--I think 15 years now---) or more???

But when the *D* didnt stop ,and continued, I sorta thought something was a miss ---thus began first GI---who was not tuned to MCC---and who I stayed with for years until I became so sick that I went to a new GI who got me back on the road----
Took a few years but I am doing great!!! :xfingers: :xfingers:

I do know certain *foods* that dont like me and if I indulge,I will have a bout of *D*----and of course the familiar word STRESS!!! which I am beginning to control---but NO pain---

Sorry to hear how many of the peoples here suffer with *pain* and I do hope U get to feeling better--

I'm better

Post by celia »

Thanks Barbara and everyone,

Yesterday was much better than Saturday and today I'm 95% pain free. It just has to run its course. When I read your update on Kait, I remember how my troubles pale in comparison to others and wish that all beings could be free of pain and suffering!

Thanks for everyone's kindness. Celia

Aw, shucks (said while blushing, shuffling feet, and looking down). Why, thank you for the kind words, Celia!

It is always such a relief to hear about others who have similar problems, isn't it? Everyone here on this Board is WONDERFUL - it's true, I really think the folks here are VERY special human beings. That *specialness* must also reside on the gene responsible for MC! And you (and Terps) are terrific additions. I am so glad you found us.

I have said many times, and it's true......without my family here I believe I would still be sick and clueless about this disease.

Love,

Polly

P.S. Glad to hear you're almost 100%.
