Hi all,
Just thought I'd pass this along, in case anyone hadn't thought to try this for a speedy breakfast in the morning.
I've had a bad habit of eating a rice bar in the morning with hot water tinged with a little instant coffee, and maybe a half banana or a glass of orange juice, and sad to say, no protein with it, unless I've got leftover meat from the night before, or else thawed Applegate turkey slices for protein.
Usually, by the time I've had time to eat that, it's almost time to prepare lunch, so that means the protein's not all that far behind, so it's not as bad, blood sugar wise as it sounds.
Still, I noticed a significant difference in how I felt this morning after substituting a Larabar for the grain containing rice bar, even though it's flavored with peanut butter, and has a little bit of oil in it.
I like all the Larabars I've tried, but this one just happened to be the pecan one. Think it seems well suited for breakfast, but I've enjoyed the ones with a little more bite in 'em for a late meal or snack in the evening.
It did seem as though my blood sugar was very level after this, so that I could go longer without needing to eat, thanks to the protein and fat of the nuts, I'm sure.
Of course, anything with nuts, we have to chew thoroughly or they'll end up in our diverticuli, so there's always something that might go wrong. It seems like we always have to chose one poison over another, doesn't it! Perhaps nuts won't stick inside those pouches once our gut lining is no longer inflammed. What do you think about that possibility? This assumes an adequate intake of vegetables and fruits for fiber, etc.
By the way, we carried Larabars on the trip to Dallas, and they helped to get us through lunchtime without severe starvation! Ha!
We also had some of that Applegate sliced turkey for more protein, and it was good and filling.
Have any of the other Larabar fans used them for breakfast? If not, try the pecan one for breakfast. Yum! Let us know if you experienced any "sugar lows" afterward, please.
Yours, Luce
