Ever forget WHY you quit eating something??

Post by Lucy »

Hi Diet Treatment folks,

Saturday morning, I attended our local celiac meeting, and two people did an excellent presentation. The man presenter had been a long time restauranteer, and the woman had been in marketing with lots of travel though had food intolerances to gluten, dairy, MSG, seafood, etc. They have put their heads together and written a book that is supposed to help people either with local eateries serving food from other countries, or with dining in other countries.

Anyway, I noticed that they didn't mention anything about the restaurants' meats possibly being injected with one of these allergens before it arrives at the restaurant's kitchen. Perhaps I just got confused along the way to the point that I began to think I couldn't trust the meats unless the restaurant could tell me whether or not their supplier provided uninjected meats. This has been very limiting whenever we attempt to eat out. That's why I enjoy going to P.F. Chang's as they declare everything gf, so no questions.

Now I'm beginning to think that perhaps it was just that restaurants often get "PRE-prepared" foods that just require a final step to be ready to be on the table??? Perhaps it's just that they've often already been marinated with some unknown stuff???
Also, perhaps I just started buying our meats, preferably where it states they are organic/range fed mostly, or at least without antibiotics or anything, like Coleman's and Buddy's at our regular grocery.

Is it safe to order, say, a pork chop, at our local dinner, in terms of gluten, if the chef states he bought it at Sam's, for instance???
If it's only some things, like turkey that are injected with gluten, then which of the other things are?

Can't believe I'm this confused now, but what I've done is get mentally lazy, and just remember the things I can't, and sometimes just don't want to eat as I have a health or taste preference for something in it's place.

Let's do the meat discussion, those of us who still eat it, that is, and perhaps that will help the newby. Whatcha say?

Yours, Luce

Luce,

This whole round of sickness for me began when I ate a pre-cooked chicken on our travel day back to the States. Thanks for bringing this question up. Maybe it was injected with gluten. It did have a thin glaze on it which could have had anything in it. Or maybe it wasn't cooked sufficiently. I was desperately hungry but in retrospect, I see eating it was a mistake!
