Anyone else have sleep problems?

Post by grannyh »

Probably a coincidence but have not slept well at all since CC hit. Saw the results of my sleep study today and found that I have sleep apnea.. seems I forget to btreathe about 19 times an hour.. no wonder I feel like I have been hit by a truck most of the time!

Doctor at sleep clinic never heard of collagenous colitis.. told him most doctors have never heard of it...LOL

My apnea is different than most..mine happens in deep sleep! I have been existing on naps of a couple of hours at a time for three years now...

Had no idea what horrid things can happen with sleep apnea... hypertension, heart attack, diabetes.... geeze I don't need anything else to go wrong!

I tried a cpap machine but ended up bloated like a toad in the morning. Will try a bipap machine next.... hope it works!

I had insomnia to the point of thinking I was going mad and might never sleep again before I found that I was having problems with gluten. The insomnia was one of the first problems to clear up in the first months on the diet. I am still grateful for that first night that I went right to sleep and woke up feeling like a new person. I do have occasional trouble falling asleep now but nothing like I used to. It is usually because I have overdone it during the day and not done my usual before dinner stretching. I know how bad I can feel when I don’t sleep well it just makes all the other symptoms worse. I truly hope you find a solution

Grannyh,
I'm sorry you have the problem but I'm very glad it's been identified. Now you can work on finding a cure/solution. I sometimes wonder if I have that but have never done anything about checking it out. Maybe someday.

Good luck in your search for relief. Hope it comes quickly.

I have a terrible time getting to sleep and then I wake up several times during the night. I'd have to say with CC I slept much better....in fact was so tired I just slept & slept & slept.

Now with my thyroid & hormone issues I don't get good rest at all. Doc has promised that once we have everything in working order I will be sleeping like a baby! Hormones are really very interesting but sure complex and hard to get adjusted once outta whack.

Hugs

Hi Granny H,

I have always hard a hard time sleeping with 6 hrs. a high maximum time for me. Since MC I have found that sleeping on my left side creates an immediate run to the loo.

Glad they were able to identify your problem and hope they have the proper solution.

Grannyh,

Sorry to hear about your sleep problems  but glad you have identified it. It's pretty hard to feel good when we don't sleep well. I have a friend whose husband started using the bipap machine thing a few months ago and it's made such a differance for him and her of coarse. He's sleeping through the nights now and feels so much better.

I had problems with inconsistant sleep patterns before my CC DX and was tired ALL the time. For the most part I've been sleeping soundly throughout the night for a good 8 months now since my symptoms are under control.

Have noticed the last month I've been waking up a few times a night and having a HARD time going BACK to sleep........but I just chalk it up to our non-stop daylight now. When I wake up at 3:30am and it's light
out  it's just hard to get back to sleep. I just want to get up and start my day :treadmill: but of coarse, I need to sleep.

I sleep very poorly. Have had insomnia for years. I limit My :coffee: and other forms of caffeine for obviou reasons. So Yeah, I have :sleep2: problems. Hubby says I snore. Maybe I ought to try a sleep study. I am having a beer tonight (unusual for me) Have had an unsually bad day today, think I have the problrm solved tho, at least I hope. :grouphug: I really need a group hug cause I called the boss today on my shift and told her I was leaving and she needed to get up to the store and take the rest of my shift, she calmed me down and I feel better now..... :talk: after we talked. Well have a great night all. Love the Herb Lady

Hi Grannyh,

Dang, if you gain any more energy, what in the world will you do with it? It sounds as though you're already doing a good day's work in half a day.

You will be running marathons if that machine works, yikes! My FIL has one of those machines. It has done wonders for him. He was so mentally fatigued and making big mistakes at work (really grumpy too)! He was like a whole new person once he started sleeping!

Keep us posted!

My sleep problems go the other way! I can sleep for days on end sometimes. The more I sleep, the worse I feel though.

Larry has a cpap machine. He has noticed a big difference since using it. I have noticed I don't get woke up 15 times a night either from snoring that shakes the windows or him inhaling and not exhaling for a long time! I would shake him awake and make him roll over so he would breath again! Not fun!

Hope this helps you sleep. I'm sure you will feel like a different woman after sleeping a GOOD nights sleep!

Sleep problems

Post by Lucy »

Even when mine is not interrupted with patient changes more than a couple of times during, say, a 6 hour period, I often will wake up feeling that I've not had restful sleep.

Think sleep problems are VERY common with M.C. and probably some of the related diseases as well.
Not sure why that is though.
I used to have a horrible rotation of shifts, and burned the candle at both ends for many years also, so it kind of makes you wonder -- chicken and egg???

If it's not too much trouble, could you explain the difference between a c-pap and bi-pap?

Hope this machine works, and doesn't blow you up like a balloon.

Thanks.
Yours, Luce

The cpap machines have only one pressure setting so you have air blowing into your nose constantly. The bipap machine has two settings.. one blows air in and the other sucks it out... They are starting me at 7 in and 4 out...

The cpap machine was a constant 7...
