Have a question for anyone

Post by annie oakley »

I have an issue with mouth sores. We have had this before on the board, but.....I have been off the Asacol, with No *D* for nearly 10 weeks. Last week I started having the Mouth sore problem. I have been swishing salt water around the mouth. It helps some but I keep getting them every few days. I know people with AutoImmnue issues can have alot of things happen. But Does anyone have any good Ideas for a mouth wash, something to tell te Doctor (when I get My insurance) or some way I don't know, to treat them. I have in the past made mouthwash from Juniper Berries, but here in This part of Texas it's hard to find too many health food stores let alone one that carries Juniper berries or that will order them. Any suggestions would be helpful? :attention: Love Oma

Have you been eating any gluten? If so, cutting it out will probably do the trick.

Oma,

I had a very painful mouth sore about a month ago. I also became extremely exhausted on the two days that it was developing. I used warm water salt rinses, and I put calendula oil on it with a q-tip 3-4x a day. Be sure not to use a mouthwash with alcohol as it will dry out your mouth more.

My Prescription for Natural Healing says Goldenseal extract or tea tree oil applied gently on the sore twice during the day and again at bedtime, helps to speed healing. To use these as mouthwashes, add 3 drops to 4 ounces of water. Add a drop or two to your toothpaste beforebrushing. Use alcohol-free goldenseal extract.

Rockrose, also known as sun rose, used as a mouthwash, both heals and eases the pain of mouth sores.

Wintergreen mouthwash is a good antiseptic. Wintergreen oil can be rubbed into the sores for temporary releif.

Here's a link for the mouth ulcers home page.

These aren't any fun. I hope yours heals quickly!

Hi Oma!

I second what Wayne says. In our case, mouth sores are most likely related to eating gluten. For more info, just google "mouth sores and gluten sensitivity" and a whole bunch of articles will pop up. I think when Luce attended Dr. Fine's conference recently she reported to us that he now says that he has found virtually everyone with MC has gluten sensitivity too.

Hope you are making lots of overtime today!!!

Love,

Polly

Oma,

As Polly says, gluten is a prime suspect for sure! But if that's not the cause, there are many other causes of mouth sores. Didn't you say you have dry mouth and dry eyes sometimes? I've been reading about Biotene brand products for dry mouth. They make a toothpaste and an alcohol free mouth rinse. Sounds like it might be a fairly common brand that you could find at a pharmacy or maybe even a big supermarket.

If you do use it, I'd be curious to know how it is.

Be well, Celia

Hi,

I was checking out the Biotene products myself and also found that Tom's of Maine has dry mouth products. I came across this page of stuff for canker sores...don't know if any of it is any good but you can check it out!

Oma,

If you are due for a dental appointment, you might ask your dentist while there if these look like the types of ulcers that celiacs have.
That would provide you with some good information in terms of how to treat your M.C. as well.

Polly, is the word I'm trying to think of spelled "anthus" ulcers? Can't spell anymore, but anyway, Oma, your dentist should be able to tell the difference, I should think. If not, perhaps she could look them up in one of her dental books. I know that my dentist was familiar with them as she has other patients who have them or had them.

Let us know if you get this checked out, ok.

Yours, Luce

Thanks everyone....now that I think of it....after ya'll mentioned gluetin..I did have a handful of some sort of chips the other day. I'll bet that had to be the culprit. I have been so careful but slipped up on that one.
Celia...I have tea Tree oil but didn't think about the Calendula..which I should have known.
I guess I better take a refresher in Herbs. I have done so good til Now. Love Oma
