Freezing Larabars?

They don't stay around long enough in my house to be frozen. :)

They are pretty chewy already as far as I am concerned. They might be good cold but if frozen would probably break every tooth in my head if I tried to bight into it, I also suspect that they would not taste like much frozen. Dried fruit, in small quantities since it is really a very condensed food, has the most intense flavors at room temperature. IMHO

Let me know if you try it. I might be wrong. I have been before.

Opps! Think I'm confusing you.

I just meant that this would be a way to keep them fresh for storage. I'd thaw them well before eating them.

They are such a great emergency source of food, that I want to have quite a bit in storage here, just in case. I can eat one of those and skip a meal when I get stuck out somewhere. I'm not able to just run to the store anytime I need a little something, so have to stay ahead on some items a little bit.

Guess the best way to test this would be to throw just one of them into the freezer for a few days, and then see how long it needs to stay out to be eatible without breakin' me teeth!

Will try to remember to report back my findings.

I think they would probably freeze just fine, but there is one way to find out..........try it with one.

Lucy, I think they stay fresh for a long time w/o freezing. That's one of the things I like about dried fruit in general - it stores well. But also, the metallic foil wrapper on the Larabars keep the humidity in so they should stay fresh w/o freezing for a loooooooooooooong time. Hey, why not freeze one and try?

Hahahah got off on the wrong track on this thread. Glad no one had to break teeth.

The Lara bar I bought today has an expiration date of Dec O6. Can’t find a manufacture date but I am sure they hedge their bets and give a cut off date of long before it would go bad. I would think they were good for about six months.

Maybe I am being to optimistic.

For one thing, I was thinking about freezing some in case I decide to evacuate Mom again this year as the weather during hurricane season is usually very hot. That way, I could leave them in an insulated bag inside the car, and save the ice chest for things that absolutely have to have to be kept refrigerated.

Opps! Forgot to throw a bar into the freezer last night, so off I go to do that right now.
