Gluten Free Beer is Gaining in Popularity

Post by tex »

Hi All,

There's an article about the growing GF beer industry in the Summer 2006 issue of Living Without magazine. Apparently GF beer is finally beginning to gain some recognition, as there are a lot of new brewers listed.

In the U. S., there are:

Bard's Tale Beer, brewers of Dragon's Gold
http://www.bardsbeer.com/

Lakefront Brewery, brewers of New Grist
http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/

Park Ridge Beer Company, brewers of Prospect Avenue Beer
http://www.prbeer.com/

Ramapo Valley Brewery, brewers of Passover Honey Beer
http://www.ramapovalleybrewery.com/

Saint Louis Brewery, brewers of Schlafly Gluten-free
http://www.schlafly.com/

In other countries
, there are:

Australia's O'Brien Brewing, offers a Lager and will be making a brown ale later this year
http://www.obrienbrewing.com.au/

Canada's Les Bieres de la Nouvelle-France, brewers of Messagere
http://www.lesbieresnouvellefrance.com/

Finland's Laitilan, brewers of two low-gluten beers
http://www.laitilan.com/

Finland's Sinebryschoff Beers, brewers of two low-gluten beers
http://www.koff.fi/en.html

Italy's BiAglut, (Non capisco the product name--this site is in Italian only)
http://www.biaglut.com/

United KIngdom's Fine Ale Club, brewers of Against the Grain
http://www.ale4home.co.uk/fine_ale_club.htm

United Kingdom's Green's, brewers of four different types of GF beers
http://www.glutenfreebeers.co.uk/

United Kingdon's Hambleton Ales, brewers of a GF ale
http://www.hambletonales.co.uk/

Morning Barb,

I don't drink it either, but we're probably in the minority. LOL.

I never liked beer, either! But that's fine - where we live, wine is the thing - we have several wineries in the area...

Mike likes his beer, however - I may have to get him to try GF beer if ever I encounter any - there are some recipes that use it, so maybe I would keep a little on hand...

I don't like beer either but used to have a hankering for an Ale every now and then. Of course since going GF, every now and then have yearned for a beer.

Love, Maggie

Dear Wayne,

thanks so much for the links! I haven't read them yet, but I will. Have you noticed if they are any different from traditional beers in the sulfite department?

Marsha,

I have no idea about the sulfites. I haven't researched the ingredients.

I'm not a beer drinker either. With so many of us not liking it, do you think it has been because our bodies were telling us we didn't like gluten? Beer always made my stomach feel icky even before the hangover effect! Whereas I can't say wine or liquor ever gave me a bad hangover feel...and god knows there was plenty of opportunity for that when I was in college!

I'm more of a wine drinker now, if I have anything. Maybe once or twice a month when Geoff and I get a chance to go out for a nice dinner.

I wish that with all the malt beverages out there now, that some of those were gf (is it true all malt beverages contain gluten?). Some are quite tastey and refreshing.

As far as I know, the malt would have to contain at least some barley, unless it were specially formulated to be GF.
