12,000+ Annuals are planted

Hi All,

I'll be back on a regular basis now, though catching up is hard! My annuals are finally planted at work so my schedule will be back to about 40 hours per week, Yeah!

I talked to my Mom yesterday and discovered that no one in my family; grandparents, their siblings, great grandparents or their siblings died in the 1918 flu pandemic. Thought that was interesting!

Bird story: Zoey, my African Grey, has learned to fly well. She likes to fly to the couch and chew on it to get my attention. I've gone to telling her "No" and squirting her with a water bottle. Actually, I just have to pick it up and she stops. She also says "No" just before she bites the couch. Well, yesterday I sprayed Dave with the water bottle and he grabbed it from me and started squirting me. Zoey said "No, No!" to Dave.

WOW! That's an incredible amount of planting. No wonder you've been scarce around here. I'm glad you're back again.

Hahahahahaha. That's a great bird story. Zoey is pretty sharp, isn't she.

Birds are SO fantastic!!! Loved the story.

When I tell BeeBee "No" he stops for as long as I'm looking at him, then he resumes whatever he was doing. Pretty much like a kid, huh.

My mind won't even wrap itself around 12,000 annuals. I'm surprised you can move your fingers to type!! Glad that is behind you for one more year.

Jean!!!!

OK---how long did it take U to plant 12,000---

I luve flowery things but I know that I wouldnt take care of them--properly!!

We had impatiences(spelling) and I luve them but alas they always died!!
And we planted them right where the shrubbery place told us to!!
This was yeaaaaaaaaaars back---so we gave up!!!

And I luved the story about Zoey-----

Barbara,

It took me three weeks, working 6 days a week. I usually only managed to work 8-9 hours per day. I can only stay on my hands and knees for so long. Of course, I wear knee pads (I get some comments) and a leather glove on my left hand. Surprisingly, the only thing that hurts is my left hand from leaning on it.

Hi Jean,

Boy, that's alot of planting, watering and maintaining! Does the club have it's own greenhouse or did you buy the plants? Curious, how much $ was spent on the gardens and what do use for a fertilizer?

Hope you have a great growing season this year. Great picture- what a beautiful place.

And 2 rose of sharon shrubs----ny our fence

OHHHHHH---and an AZELIA bush----which is in the back yard-
Which we NEVER do a thing too and

it blooms like crazy~~~~~

Ouch! I have trouble getting about 10 annuals in! Of course I do it as a hobby, not a job. If I didn't ahve a job it would be much easier!

Finally have most of my veggie garden in too. I need to take a pic of my corn for Tex...Its quite impressive...I think its all of about 2-3 cm high now!

A picture would be good. I've just about forgotten what normal corn is supposed to look like. Our corn is just past the roasting ear stage now, and it's burning up from the drought, faster than it can mature. You guys are getting all the rain up there.

It could rain manure now, and I don't think it would help our corn crop, anymore. Sigh.

Luckily, the golf courses have irrigation systems, there's no way I could keep everything watered! I use a slow release fertilizer, heavily. It's 15-30-15 or something similar, I know the second number is higher.

I would rather use a water soluble fertilizer like Miracle-gro, but that's not feasible. I'd have to drag the 1 1/2\" hose around and it weighs about 60lb. empty.

I spent somewhere around $5000, maybe a little more. A new PGA building was added since last year and I had to plant that too. I get a wholesale price on my plants.

I've thought of talking them into a greenhouse, but it could get me in trouble. There's always the possibility of a disease wiping me out. The planning would be hard too. I would probably end up with too many or too few of some plants. Dave was the head grower at the last place we worked, so we do have the knowledge. It would also mean that I wasn't laid off in the winter. Maybe after they add the hotel and office buildings it will work out. The price of heat can be a killer.

I think we've had a little too much of your rain. The corn got in late and it's barely over 5 inches tall. It's been very cool too, 40 degrees last night.
