FAQ's about MC - EVERYONE'S HELP NEEDED!

Post by Mars »

Polly asked that we begin work on this section of the board. We could make it fun by copying the list into a new thread and adding your question at the bottom - whatdayathink? At that rate, we could have 35 questions at the end of this (that's with Wayne/Tex counted as 2)

I'll start:

Q  Is there a difference between CC and LC?
"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha

A couple of comments here for editing purposes:

Q Is there a difference between CC and LC? Obviously, or they wouldn't have two different names. Possibly a better way to phrase that would be "What is the difference between CC and LC?"

Q Is it normal to have pain with MC?

Q Is MC the same as ulcerative colitis?

Q Is a biopsy the only way to detect MC? How about "How is MC diagnosed?"

Q Can MC be cured?

Q Can MC be generic?

Q Can MC lead to cancer?

Q Is Mc caused by stress?

Q Is Mc a hereditary diseases?

Q Is Mc caused by over use of antibiotics?

Q Can Acid blockers( their is a better trerm but not coming up with it ) cause Mc or have an effect on it?

Q Do NSAID's cause MC ? This one, and the previous four entries, could be summarized by "What causes MC?"

Q Do medications mask damage from food intolerances? This one is pretty controversial--I'm not sure that we want to go there, because it probably depends on the medications, the patient, and a lot of other factors, but I'll go along with the consensus of opinion. IOW, if I were taking meds, or considering taking meds, I wouldn't want to endorse a statement such as that, unless it had been verified beyond a shadow of doubt for more than just specific cases, and I don't believe that's been done. Statements such as this can create unnecessary dissension.

Q Should I take vitamins since everything is going through me?

Since I assume that we are still in the brainstorming mode I must add that to the contrary not withstanding the oppoiste is also may be true.

FAQs

I don't have a lot to add, you all have covered a LOT of ground, but I have to say regarding Matthew's post, I agree it's very controversial and perhaps we could just rephrase to be something like this:

Q: Can medications mask symptoms of another issue?

A: Yes, they CAN, which is not to say they ARE. Some medications can cause it to be difficult to tell what else is going on in your body. Medications that eliminate pain, for example. When taking any medications, it is always a good idea to keep in communication with your doctor about side effects, and possible underlying conditions. Pain is a sign that there is something wrong, so do not ignore it.

Something like that????

Just a comment on the remission question.... as one who has had nothing but medication induced remissions... it can be tricky figuring out what to eat. Ihave no idea why Crestor induced two short term remissions.. but I do know that narcotics for pain (ie lortab/codeine) can cause constipation in some people but appeared to be a remission to moi:)
