Re gluten

Post by annie oakley »

I don't remember the thread or Post where someone had said that the longer you are off gluten then go back on it your reaction time can be shorter and symtoms harder. Well That may be right, I posted about eating the grape nut flakes in Polly's thread regarding " Menu time again" I think it was. Anyway I laid off the grape nut flakes for a couple days and the arthritis started to ease of, much to my suprise and then this am I ate a bowl and by the the time lunch rolled around at work, mu arthritis was back where it was the other day.
Now maybe the arthrits was still flaring when I ate the gluten this am, but it hit like a ton of bricks by lunch, and I haven't changed my diet any in the last two weeks, except for the flakes. Interesting huh? Gues where the flakes are going??????? :bird1: :bird1: :bird1: :bird1: :turtle: and all the other critters mice quail etc. Love Oma

Oma, I'm glad you are tracking down that cause! My rheumatoligist made it clear to me that I do not have arthritis; I get 'arthralgias' - joint and muscle pain that is not arthritis. Maybe you do indeed have arthritis, but thought I would mention this in case you actually might have arthralgias too that result from eating intolerances. I ONLY get those pains when I eat certain foods. On the other hand, arthritis can be sensitive to food too.

Good luck with this! Celia

Oma,

I believe your arthritic problems can be compounded by your diet if your ingesting gluten or other things your body reacts to. Celia mentioned arthralgias which I researched today and it seems to be a good name to put on the muscle and joint pain that I and many others suffer with as a symptom of MC, that technically don't have arthritis.

I have found after being GF for almost 2 years even a minute amount of gluten now will affect my body on the spot, where as a year ago I was not able to make that connection. It's such a learning process.

Your right, the longer we are GF the more sensitive our bodies become to it and our reactions are quick. It's interesting, isn't it?

Love,
Joanna
