Why some folks might not be getting better on a GF diet

This was rather intresting.

High prevalence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth in celiac patients with persistence of gastrointestinal symptoms after gluten withdrawal.

I found that article after finding this one:
Endoscopic and histological findings in the duodenum of adults with celiac disease before and after changing to a gluten-free diet: a 2-year prospective study.

Hi Mike,

This was really interesting. I looked up the antibiotic from the first site....Rifaximin..it is a non-systemic antibiotic that does not pass the intestinal wall and says that it reduces gas and bloating symptoms in people with diarrhea. I just got results back from a stool test that indicated an over growth of intestinal bacteria both good and bad. I keep wondering what part this is playing in the slow recovery process.

Thank you again,

I had run across similar references to antibiotic help for IBS sufferers, and have been mulling over whether or not to ask my doctor to prescribe something for me as an experiment. He's pretty willing to try things that have any documentation to support the chance it might help me. Maybe in Sept. when we're back home.
