Hi all,
If you can possibly get hold of a copy of the March 2005 issue of "Scientific American," there's an article in there that's actually about a sister autoimmune disease, Lupus, but it explains sooo much of what goes on to create these autoimmune reactions, and in doing so, mentions possible medical interventions.
These could possibly be developed to interrupt these vicious cycles which would avoid some of the more general drugs that simply cut off overall immune reactions which put the patient at risk for infection as well as other health problems. Ideal meds would be specific for these diseases.
Name of the article is "Taming Lupus," and it starts on page 70 (text on 71) and runs through page 77.
By the way, the website for this publication is www.sciam.com if you're interested. I've not yet checked it out myself, but will soon.
Also, in the "more to explore" box, there's another website:
www.lupusresearch.org
Hoping these will interest someone.
Yours, Luce

I went to the website but could only read a little bit of the article because I'm not a member and I didn't want to buy the article. Thanks for the information though. It's nice to know that we may better drug choices someday for treatment. Thanks
