Mike - about Calcium

Post by moremuscle »

Hi Mike,

I am searching the old board for info about Calcium - we have discussed it several times in the past in the GF-Kitchen.

I had a little difficulty finding the link that I was looking for but here it is:

www.paleodiet.com/losspts.txt

If you would like to read the old threads about calcium there is a lot of discussion in February 2005 in the GF-Kitchen, old board.

The following link is also of interest:

http://www.beyondveg.com/cordain-l/prot ... s-1a.shtml

I hope reading this will make you less worried and that it will give you confidence in seeking alternative sources of calcium. Let me know what you think.

If you would like to see some of the old discussion here is a link to an old Gf-Kitchen thread:

http://forum.microscopiccolitis.org/cgi ... Discussion

Love,
Karen

Very interesting. I had wondered how paleo and caveperson would have gotten calcium as I imagined that they didn't consume dairy, and the amount of calcium in vegetable sources seems too low as well, I can't imagine them consuming that much gree vegetables. So there must be another source.

I think it might be from (as gross as it sounds) the bones of smaller animals. Fish bones, small animal bones, etc.

Does marrow contain calcium? Marrow isn't a normal part of today's diet, but it was.
