Technical question -- meaning of the box with IP in it and o

Will someone please explain to me what the two little boxes in the upper left hand corner are for? One has "ip" in it, and I forget the one next to it, but think it may be an "x".

The "x" is to delete the post.
The "ip" is to see the IP address of the user. IP is basically your internet address.

Well, hopefully we all don't have permission to delete someone elses posts. I'm curious to try it out though. I'm going to post another post right after this one. Can someone (besides Tex or an Admin) try to delete it?

Did anyone notice that these boxes aren't on the left, they're on the right? Hmm, what can THIS mean?
