Asacol Anyone?

Post by bobh »

About 4 months ago, I decided to try Meds, starting with Asacol. Some people have success, and I thought I was getting a little better - but it never controlled my symptoms. I am no longer taking it, and have about 268 pills left over.

I was in financial grief, got a smaller script at full retail, then a very generous person helped me with the larger quantity. I don't want them to go to waste. I offered them to one person who I know uses Asacol - and she suggested I try to find someone who didn't have insurance that really needed them, so let me know if you want them (and have a Dr's prescription to take it...)

Here is an interesting quote from someone who's opinion I respect on the subject of Asacol:
Personally, I don't consider it to be a very beneficial drug for MCers, in general. From past history, it appears that many people have reacted adversely to it, and of the precious few who have actually gained remission with it, most of them have subsequently tried to wean off it, and then when their symptoms returned, they were unable to regain remission, by reinstating the Asacol treatment.
I posted that because it reflects my experience. Again, if someone can benefit, please contact me.

Merry Christmas BOB---

Asacol did nothing for me either-----and this was to be the *miracle meds* for MCC-----when it came on the market--
This was given to me in 2001----after a few months taken off and put on Colazal which really got me in control---

Hope U find someone who can use it---

A healthy New Year also

Hi from Atlanta. We're here for the holidays. Has been great.

Anyhow, my next door neighbor has Crone's Disease and he takes 12 Asacol per day. He was very, very sick and this is his maintenance dose, I guess. He's fine, just has to watch what he eats, and take the Asacol. I'm sure someone on the board can use them, but I just wanted to say that the medicine is apparently useful for some.

Are you doing okay now, Bob?

Bob here, yes I am doing much better the last 4 months (thanks to a short burst of Prednisone followed by 2 Entocort a day, 3 if needed).

If I don't "get a hit" with someone on this board, maybe you can check if your neighbor has good ins. (or alternately, like me, may have to pay big $$).
