Software Update To Version 2.0.22

Post by tex »

Hi All,

A couple of days ago, the crew that writes the code for these php boards, released the latest upgrade, version 2.0.22. The code changes were mostly to fix security issues, in order to stay ahead of the hackers, as they become more sophisticated with their shenanigans.

If anyone sees anything that isn't working correctly, (other than the post that Tessa wrote which won't open, and other than the 22 emoticons that are currently not working), please let me know.

I noticed that some of the emoticons were not working a couple of days ago, but I wasn't sure if it was the server that runs the board, or just my browser. When I review the list of emoticons, I find that 22 of them no longer work for me, (examples are santasleigh, dancing penguins funky cat, etc.). Is this true for everyone, or is it just me?

If everyone is having the problem, then obviously, the problem is with the server. I probably won't be able to check with my server administrators until after the holidays. It doesn't do any good to call during the holidays, for tech assistance on a database operated program such as a discussion board, because only the head honchos have the authority to access the servers that do this - none of the other tech assistants are allowed to access those servers, because of the risk of data corruption. (They don't keep backups of databases, so if it gets corrupted, "that's all she wrote", as they say). IOW, I, or the other admins on this board, have to make our own database backups on a regular basis, just in case something serious should go wrong at the server level.

There are usually about one or two upgrades per year, but sometimes, new upgrades are issued more often.

As far as I can tell, everything seems to be working exactly the same as it was before I made the code changes, about an hour ago, but if you find something that isn't working right, (other than the exceptions noted above), please let me know.

Thanks,
Tex

Oh-oh! I was afraid of that. They stopped working for me abut the time that I downloaded the latest upgrade for FireFox. The trouble with browsers these days is that they're getting so good that they don't work right, anymore. LOL.

Thanks, I guess I'll have to go back to an older version.

Hi Barbara,

I remember when you mentioned that problem. They don't work for me all, since I upgraded my browser, no matter how long I wait. The problem is either the browser, or one of the add-ons that I added to it. If I can't figure out which it is , I guess I'll just have to go back to using an older version of FireFox, because all the emoticons worked fine with all the other versions.

None of the three emoticons in your post work for me. All I see are the words "flying dove left dancing penguins and santasleigh".

Luve,

Wayne,
I downloaded the new Firefox yesterday and I still have the emoticons. Sorry! I didn't get any add-ons, unless Thunderbird is an add-on.

I do get that "invalid session, please resubmit" thing that Barb mentioned.

Hi Kathy,

Which version did you upgrade to? The one I'm using is version 2.0.0.1, which includes new features such as automatic spell checker. On my laptop, I upgraded to 1.5.0.9 last week, and it works fine with the emoticons, but it will no longer be maintained and upgraded by Mozilla after April 24, 2007.

If you are using version 2.0.0.1, (which it sounds like you are), then one of the many add-ons that I'm using is probably the source of the trouble.

Thanks.

Yes, version 2.0.0.1 is what I upgraded to. I like it. I like the Thunderbird mail client, too. My screen looks much more up-to-date now, although we're still on dial-up so in reality we're still in the dark ages.

Hi Beth,

If you want to upgrade your Mozilla Firefox browser, go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ and click on the free download button. It will download and then there will be a Firefox install icon on your desktop which you click and keep clicking "next" until you're finished.

Was that what you wanted to know?

Kathy,

Wonder of wonders! When I opened this topic to read your response, all those missing emoticons suddenly started working. ?????

That's the dangdest thing I've seen happen in quite a while. I have no idea why, but they work fine, now, so I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth. Thanks for whatever you did to fix them. LOL.

Well, I don't know. This morning I don't have the flying dove in Barbara's post. I opened the page in Explorer and the dove was there. I guess it is a Firefox issue. Or maybe it's that little devil banana causing mischief. Or you got my flying dove!
