Hi Bobbie,

Sorry to hear about the sunburn and rash. When I was a kid, my mother used to make a paste of baking soda and water, and it seemed to help to soothe the pain and/or itch. Commercial over-the-counter salves such as Benadryl Creme, or Gel might do better to stop the itch.

I guess I'm a coward when it comes to sunburn. It only took about one good sunburn when I was a kid, to convince me to wear a long sleeve shirt and hat anytime that I'm out in the sun. LOL.

Love,
Tex

sunburn

Being freckled and red-headed I've had many a burn in my life, but I do try to be careful. I once got really (and I mean REALLY) itchy with a bad burn on my chest and the doc gave me an antihistamine - it worked wonders and I only took one. I believe that antihistamines are NSAIDs, though...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Other than that I love Barb's idea!

No hugs so I don't hurt your burn...

Peg, I don't think antihistamines are NSAIDs. :???:

Do you have Noxema in England? That also helps a burn..goodness knows why since its a face cream/cleanser (in case you don't have any idea what I'm talking about).

I'm getting over a burn too. Have gotten to the peely stage, which itches, then stings when it peals too far, but way better than the initial burn pain.

If you can find something with tannic acid in it - that will remove the itch pronto - at least for a while.

Doesn't tea have tannic acid???

Reason I'm saying that is because I got a really bad sunburn on my back (water blisters) First it just hurt, then started itching. That was worse than the sunburn pain. Went to the drug store and asked for something to stop the itching. He gave me a something in a spray with tannic acid as the main ingredient and it was instant relief. In a couple of hours, I'd have to spray again.

I like to use a cortisone spray (1%) on sunburn. Keeps it from peeling. Had to use it last week when I stayed too long in the sun on the beach. We certainly have a lot of folks with home remedies, don't we?

Bobbie, good to hear from you.

Love,

Polly
