Sara is Home from Hospital
Hi All:
Sara got home from the hospital this afternoon and I was happy to be able to talk to her on the phone for a few minutes. Lisa is going to stay home from work for 3 weeks and work with her and the diet counsellor to try to get her on the right track again. It won't be easy, but the counsellor said she isn't at the point of being anorexic yet, but heading down that road. This was a wake-up call for sure and I hope it put a scare into Sara.
My cold is getting better and today my head isn't in such a fog so I'm able to think a bit more clearly. Still have chest congestion and head cold symptoms, but not as bad. Hopefully on the way to recovery and starting 2007 out better once we get past this.
I hope to be well enough to go to see Sara on the weekend.
Our weather has turned very cold and clear, so quite dangerous on the roads with freezing. Yesterday, a helicopter had to make an emergency landing on the freeway median just a few blocks from our house. I heard it, but didn't realize what it was until I saw it on the news later. His rotors froze and he was lucky to have landed safely and with a minimum of damage or injury. It was a training helicopter, so the student had quite an experience.
Well, I'm going to get curled up on the couch with my blanket and kitty.
Have a nice evening, everyone.

Yeah, Peggy
I'm so happy to hear things are improving for you. Things are looking up for all of us.
See you soon, Kiddo. Love you
Oma:
Sara hasn't talked to me about it, but I only talked to her for a few minutes on the phone. She has seen a counsellor and that will continue, as will regular Dr. appointments to monitor her progress. I will only talk to her about it if she wants to approach the subject with me, but don't want us all to gang up on her - just let her know we love her and want to see her be healthy and happy.

Momster-
I just caught up and read about your granddaughter - I'm glad to hear she is home and getting treatment to avoid a full-blown problem! Even when I was in school, this was a problem among teenage girls - they aren't aware of what their bodies need to be fueled and healthy. Many "go vegetarian" without doing the research to make sure they are getting the necessary nutrients...I knew "many" who skipped breakfast, and had a salad and diet coke for lunch. I don't know what they ate for dinner, but this is calorie-deficient for an active young person, and counter-productive for losing/maintaining weight! I think "healthy" habits along with appropriate food guidlines should be taught to all young people as part of the school curriculum!
Best of luck to Sara as she journeys back to health!
Love,
Mary
