Pain!

Post by JJ »

 I have an infection in my gums.....it hurts really bad!!!!! I'm taking 10 days of Clindamycin...all dentists are out on Fridays, so dropped in at Urgent Care. I went back later and said I couldn't stand the pain, and had already taken 3 Aleves...horrible for my gut, but the pain was unbearable. The doc wrote me a script for Tyleno/Codeine...I still have a little pain, even after having taken 2. Luckily I can take 2 more at 10PM...I have to be in Seattle at 7:30AM tomorrow... I need to meet the ski school group...luckily, I ride with the Director, and I can take some pain meds and zone out. I promise to be careful on the slopes!

Nite nite...JJ

Sorry.
I think toothache pain is the worst! It's almost impossible to ignore a pain in your head. Hope you make it through the weekend. Hope you could have at least a little fun skiing.

Hi...it was our first day of ski school and things were crazy as usual.. we have 87 kids in our ski school, and they didn't all make it out of rentals in time for their 10 AM lessons...uffda. We got some in later lessons, then we had one in Ski Patrol with an injured hand, and a meeting to staighten out the finances...whew...I didn't ski, but the snow looked great...I popped a lot of pills, mostly Tylenol and Aleve without codeine.....I didn't want to be too loopy to drive my car back to Tacoma. I hope my gut survives all this!!!!! BTW, there was a dusting of snow in Seattle and Tacoma and the forecast is for 1-2 inches on Tuesday morning....will I ever go back to school? Many roads in Tacoma are still compact snow and ice....it's not melting and freezes every night...this is truly odd for Tacoma! Nite nite...JJ

Amosan

Post by Momster »

Hi Jill:

I don't know if you can get Amosan there, but it's really good for infected gums. It's a powder that you add to water and rinse your mouth out with.
Hope things settle down soon.
The slopes sound wonderful - even just to watch.
We Westerners aren't used to the cold are we? People don't know how drive in it and the cities don't know how to keep the roads cleared, salted and sanded so it's safe to drive, so best to stay home as much as possible. I'm lucky to have an experienced driver in these conditions because of John having grown up in Quebec.
We're going out this afternoon to see Sara - Can hardly wait to give her a gentle hug. Lisa says she's doing really well.
Have a nice Sunday.

Love - Momster

Jill-

I hope you are feeling better!! Clindamycin is one of the antibiotics that is prone to causing c-diff, so if your D acts up, please let your doctor know! You need to treat it ASAP, if it happens...

You are brave to ski when not feeling well - I'm one to sit in the lodge with a good book and a mug of coffee - never progressed past the bunny slopes and I never found the appeal of slogging around in the cold snow - if we make it up to Squaw Valley, I'll skate at the ice rink, however!

Stay warm and I hope your mouth is feeling better!

Hi all..thanks for the well wishes...I am still in pain today, and have only 2 pain pills left. I may have a neighbor drive me to the clinic later if I feel the need. I don't know if my dentist will be in tomorrow, but will call first thing. I am going to try to hold off going to the clinic again..I don't know why I am so afraid to ask for pain meds, maybe I feel ashamed that I can't handle the pain...that's stupid of course.

It's clear and sunny here today...slowly warming up in the next few days, but it's taking it's time. It was 20 degrees when I checked this morning. How is the ice storm in Texas..better? That is one nasty storm~!

Take care all...JJ

Hi Jill,

In case your dentist is unable to help you tomorrow, please don't hesitate to ask for more pain pills. When your supply runs out, if the pain is still there, it won't take long for it to totally ruin your day.

Also, I agree with Mary about the C-diff risk. You might want to consider preempting that risk by taking a good probiotic for a couple of weeks, beginning as soon as, (or slightly before), the antibiotic treatment ends.

The freeze line is taking forever to get here, but it's slowly edging closer. It's raining more than was originally predicted, and that seems to be holding the temps slightly above freezing, for the moment. The forecast shows temps in the 20's tonight and all day tomorrow, with continued rain and/or wintry mix, for several more days, so we are probably in line for a fairly nasty ice storm, as the colder air slowly slides over us. Oma lives about 150 mikes NW of me, and I think she's been seeing icing since Friday afternoon, according to the weather maps.

Glad you're finally seeing some sunshine. Our forecast now shows rain every day, for at least 10 days out.

Hi...I tried to call the clinic and they were closed... I slept all afternoon and just took one pain pill and an Aleve....it is starting to hurt again! I will for sure call my dentist tomorrow morning, but they may be closed because of the holiday...if so...it's back to the clinic for me. Thanks for the support! JJ

Uffda...here's the scoop. The dentist says I most likely have TMJ...there is evidence that I have been grinding my teeth in my sleep. He is sending me to a specialist to see if I need root canal work on the tooth that has been compressed, then I will go back to him to get fitted for the mouth guard thingy. They cost about $350...I will wait a few weeks to see how much my insurance will pay. Meanwhile, I am supposed to keep taking my antibiotic, and he gave me prescriptions for Vicodin and Naproxin. They are really helping wit the pain. They are supposed to last for 6 hrs and I needed them after just 3 !!!!

So, that's my update....may snow here again tonight.....I could use another day at home to rest...TTFN...JJ

Jill,

TMJ must be fairly common among MCers, and apparently a high percentage of the general population grinds their teeth. Some researchers claim that a third grind their teeth, and some claim that the percentage may be as high as 100%.

I hope you get that snow you want, so that you can rest tomorrow.

The roads are still very icy from the snow storm last week. Midterm reports were due tomorrow, but now they are due next Monday...I would love to rest tomorrow and read a book! I still need to make an appt with the specialist...sigh.....also I have a lecture at the Art Museum tomorrow night....at least I can sleep-in.. Nite nite...JJ

Are you giving a lecture, or attending one?

Luckily, I am just attending. ....A retired Art History professor from the University of Puget Sound, is presenting a series of lectures...actually, there will be 18 in all. I went to the series last fall, and just started the winter sessions. They are wonderful!

Thursday, I will begin teaching my after school watercolor classes for kids. I only have 3 kids signed-up, but I enjoy small groups. My fall Drawing class was full, but I think I am competing with other winter activities. I am keeping quite busy for being part time...hahaha. No rest for the weary!

The news is saying 100% sure that snow is on the way...it is 25 degrees in Tacoma right now! How are you doing?

Nite nite...JJ

Morning JJ,

I sure hope the pain has lessened and I know what you are experiencing. I am looking forward on 2/21 of having 11 teeth pulled, 5 torte(sp? - pymirayal peaks on the pallette and bone - ground down, which means cutting the gums to do it and then a plate slammed in. Pain and torture is the course for this. Hopefully, nice pearly whites will be the result and then I will have no more real teeth to give me agony.

Be well, Love, Maggie
