OK---THE REASONS--KAITS PAIN!!!!!

Post by barbaranoela »

!. her ICP readings are PERFECT----
2. the issues are-----the opiates (which are many) are CAUSING her all this pain!! I never KNEW this could happen but then I am not a doctor~~
3. she has to be taken off slowly--
4. Lynn and pain management(@home) will start to lower her meds.
5. And if this doesnt work-----Kait will have to go into a DETOX clinic for a month and have it done---in my opinion start the CLINIC NOW!!
7. men dont cry!!!! yes we all know they shed a tear/tears--Mr. L is also breaking my heart

8. this broke my heart also----Kait saying to Harter-----
*I want to be normal---I want to live a normal life---I want to have a boyfriend--I want to have sex---I want to get married and have children--and I really dont want to DIE!!!!

I dont know how this will end----hoping that she can be detoxed and perhps not HAVE to take as much opiates as she does now!!

Luve Barbara

PS. was just thinking---your body,no doubt, becomes so used to a certain dosage---thus needing the amt. to be upped----and I guess this can cause pain????
I dont know---I am just reaching to understand!!!!

Barbara, it is heartbreaking..............and I don't wonder that you are struggling to understand. I'm sure I would be.

I imagine Polly or Tex will be able to explain it somewhat. I'm truly hoping and praying that she WILL be able to experience a normal life one of these days.

Barbara, like Shirley, I, too, hope Kait can get straightened out and have a normal life. I think she has so much to offer.
I won`t be able to cite any articles or quotations like Tex or Polly but I do believe that medications....especially opiates....can cause pain and even give one thoughts of suicide. Wishing all of you the best. Prayers are with you all. Love, Carol

Hi Barbara,

I think you are are probably correct - Kait would be better off if she entered a detox clinic ASAP, because she very likely will not be able to withdraw from opiate dependency by means of her own efforts. Here's how opiates can cause pain.
Percocet and Vicodin are effective in treating pain because they contain chemicals that bind the brain’s pain receptors and numb our ability to feel pain. But once the drug wears off, the withdrawal symptoms create such pain and discomfort that it pulls the user into taking greater quantities of the drug more frequently. It becomes a vicious cycle: they take the drug to stop the pain, but the drug itself causes pain.
The resulting pain can be much worse than the pain that they were originally prescribed to treat.
Studies show that people who had complained of pain levels of two or three now experience pain levels of eight or nine just 12 months after going on Percocet and Vicodin.
These quotes are from this site, which describes opiate detox programs for teenagers.

Hi Sis,

Tex is correct, of course. He has provided a good explanation of the mechanism at work here.

The silver lining is that it is NOT the spinal fluid pressure, which is a much more difficult issue to address. At least she doesn't need more surgeries with the associated risk of infections, injury to the brain, etc. I hope she finds a good treatment program ASAP.

Who has been prescribing and monitoring the pain meds? Harter? Just wondering...............

Lots of love,

Polly

Morning Barbara,

When will all of this end for poor Kait? I agree with others here that she should start detox now and get her more rapidly towards the life she described to Harter that she wants. I still have my opinion of Dr. H and it will never change. It is so hard to see a man cry especially when there is nothing you can do to help them.

Love, Maggie
