Mike,
This quote from that article, pretty well sums up the problem that most MCers face when they try to get help from the medical profession:

Maybe a few of them will read that article in Gut, and begin to see the light. Most doctors don’t believe stress, food proteins, or altered gut flora are central to development of gut injury.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Sad but true. If only we can find the Doctors out there who do understand this.
A very interesting book that I read recently on a similar topic is this book:

A book that I highly recommend reading. Though their push for intake of soy left a bad taste in my mouth most of the rest seems to be spot on.

Interesting article, Mike.
I especially found it interesting that when rats were subjected to stress, their guts became leaky and allowed foreign proteins in. This is an area that has not had near enough attention.
I have mentioned many times before that my gut has always been my "target" organ. For as long as I can remember, when I am nervous I get diarrhea. I wonder how many others here have a similar experience.
I have often wondered if there is a certain personality type that is at risk for MC. As a group, our family here does seem to have some very unique traits. So many of us seem to be "caretaker" types - always worried about everyone else. Also, we seem to be rather "gentle" and trusting souls. I got a kick out of that recent (was it Reggie's?) comment that we were much more gullible than those on other websites.
It would be fun to see how our group stacks up on a standard personality test, wouldn't it? I'll bet we would see some commonalities that differ from the general population? Anyone have time to tackle this? TIME - what's that??? LOL.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Polly-
To follow up on your response- we took a poll at another forum a while ago (UC forum) and most of the people experienced times of stress, eating very poorly, and antibiotics to have set them off. My MC was set off in my last semseter in college when I was under so much stress, eating poorly, and whatever else college students do.
Stress is literally a killer. That is why exercise and some kind of therapy is good for people who exerpeince too much stress.
I have touted the horn on probiotics before and how good they are. i used to take VSL#3 which unbfortunately had some traces of casein in it- so I no longer take it- iFlora is a good GFCF one that only has rice starch as the other ingredients.
If you must take an antibiotic please take a probiotic as well to replace that good flora is being destroyed by the antibiotics. Activia is good if you can handle the milk.
