Shingles

Post by Liz »

Found out today when I saw my doc that the cause of the rash & intching & pain I have been having is shingles. Too late to have antiviral stuff so will just have to put up with it for a while. Should have gone to doctor as soon as it started& I would have if I had had any idea what it was.

Just have to grin & bear it I suppose.

Love

Liz

Hi Liz,

Bummer for sure. That can be rough to have to put up with. I think the last case of shingles here belonged to Grannyh, but if I recall correctly, hers were internal.

Hope it doesn't last long.

Love,
Tex

Thanks Wayne, so do I. It's not very nice I can tell you. I did not know that you could get it internally.

Oh Dear, Liz!!! I've never had shingles but a good friend had a horrible case of them. She let it go to long also. I really wish you had thought about shingles and gone to the Dr. early, but then, so do you!!

I'll be thinking of you.....

In this case a virtual hug is better than a real one. I know you don't want anyone touching you at this point...

I am so sorry to hear you have shingles. I have only heard how bad they can be and I do feel so bad for you. Hope it clears up soon and you will be able to enjoy yourself.

Hi Liz, I am so sorry to hear you have Shingles. My dad had them and they not only itched they were extremely painful. He waited too long, as well.
There is a product here in the US called Sarna. It is supposed to prevent itching. I have had no personal experience with it but have talked to many that have (at work) and they all say it does what it is supposed to. Maybe you could see if it is available where you are. It is over the counter here.
Wishing you the best. Love, Carol

Hi All. Thanks for the support. Carol I will see if that stuff is available here. Rapid Aid helps. My doc says that plain old Calamine Lotion is good for the itching but there is not a lot that you can do for the pain, & that could go on for some time. I am fortunate in that my case is not as bad as some that I have seen but still not a very happy camper. It did cross my mind at first that it could have been shingle but discounted that because it is so patchy instead of being in a sort of belt around the waist like a friend had. Mine is splattered around, all on one side, under my arm, my boob, back near my shoulder & a few odd spots on the arm. Have also seen it on a man's face, near his eye & he was in a terrible state.

And you can't take Valtrex, or something like it? I took it when I had shingles, and it really helped. Sorry . . .

Hi Liz!!
Checking in to see how you are doing with those nasty shingles... I know they can be quite painful.
I had them when I was a child and they started to the right of my belly button and traveled from there, all around my waistband to the middle of my back.. Needless to say, I was a mess and at that time there weren't any of the prescibed meds, like Valtrex.. Just calamine lotion.. To this day, from them doing a real good job of scarring me, I look like I was badly burned..
I'll check with my sister in Florida to see what her Dr. prescribed for her when she had them this past year.. She had patches of them the size of a pancake!!! I know she used the Lidocaine patches, but also something else that gave her relief...

Love

Hi All. Some of the rash is fading but I have some aches & pains still. Patch on my back drives me mad. Marsha, you have to take stuff like Valtrex as soon as possible but it was too late by the time I saw my doctor. Did not even know what the rash was until then. Thought it was an allergy or something. Was using my Tens machine on my back & shoulder because I thought the pain was from my spine. :???: I have had rashes before, once all over my trunk from a change in detergent so presumed it was something similar. Silly me. . Just using a spray & lotions, Panamax & Panadeine Forte at night.

Thanks for the hugs Margie.
Love

Liz
