From Mikes posted article:
This paragraph is like a lightening bolt in a pitch black night
"Other gluten related diseases including dermatitis herpetiformis, the neurological conditions of ataxia and peripheral neuropathy, and microscopic colitis have been described in DQ2 and DQ8 negative individuals. The DQ genetic patterns found in other gluten related diseases and associated with elevated stool antibody tests indicate that many more people are genetically at risk for gluten sensitivity. Furthermore, the response of numerous symptoms to gluten-free diet is not limited to people who are DQ2 or DQ8 positive. "

I swear that gluten is like the perfect storm, it does a whole heck of a lot of things that compromise the body.
So amoung those things listed in the article we also have the fact that wheat produces opiates (as does casein/dairy). Not only do you get addicted to it, but it also decreases gut motility thus alowing for bad bacteria to get a foothold among other things.

Can't help but agree with you based on my experience and from what I read. Gluten has always intirgued me, it was such a very big part of my diet before I was DX with CC. I ate tons of it, and I mean tons....
It might have been for me, the perfect storm to trigger MC.

This is a VERY good article on gluten and such, rather lengthy and in pfd format.
Page 23 is interesting, it lists obervations of 7 medical viewpoints of understanding gluten sensitivites and celiac disease.
1-Doctors who are unaware of new gluten intolerance/celiac research
2-The Conservatives
3-The Moderates
4-The Maverick- Dr. Ken Fine
5-The Allergists
6-The Alternatives, Functional Medicine
7-Spirtual and Emotional/Psychological Components
Pages 24-25 are also interesting, listing a historical/timeline & landmarks relating to gluten and digestive illnesses.

I haven't seen this article before. Cool stuff.

Hi Joanna,
When I clicked on your link, (the pdf link in your last post), it took me here, (which is obviously an htm site, rather than pdf). Try this link:
http://www.glutensensitivity.net/intro.htm
I'm not sure how that happened, because when I tried your pdf link again, the computer asked me if I wanted to open it with a PDF program, (which is the correct response for a pdf file).
Anyway, yes, that's an excellent site. It's a relatively new site, isn't it? It seems to primarily deal with cases that fail the classic celiac blood and biopsy tests, but present with gluten sensitivity, nevertheless. Apparently the site owners have personal experience with the absurdity of gluten challenges. Their 22 year old daughter tried one, and had some ugly consequences. Even so, she still tested negative to both the blood tests, and a SI biopsy.

Thanks,
Tex
